I just got back from my level II u/s. She looked just fine. Nothing was wrong with her body, but she was measuring very small. My due date is July 23rd according to my LMP. My first u/s measured me at Aug 1 and the 2nd measured me at very very close to July 23rd.
Well..today with the level II, she measured at August 7th. So now they don't know still if she has it or not. Her body looks great, but she is just very small. It could still be Downs or my due date could just be off. I have another level II in 1 month from today. I am also 19 years old and this is my first child.

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

O, another thing, what are the triple screen and quad tests?? I wouldn't want to do an amnio, but what are these test? Could they help tell me as well so I can better prepare for my daughters arrival?

Hi-
The triple screen test is done at 15-18 weeks. This gives you an idea of what your risk is. How much smaller is she measuring? I had my daughter when I was 19 and the due date was pushed back by 3 weeks, but being young and not planning the pregnancy, I did not keep track of my menstrual cycle and that threw the dates off. What is measuring small? Also, have they found any other indicators of down syndrome?

I had mine done at 19wks (according to my due date). But if I really am due in August now then I would be 18 or even 17wks when they tested me. So this could all be because of wrong due dates.
What gave them an indicator that I had Downs was the AFP test. There are certain chemicals they look at. 4 of them showed a pattern of possible D.S., meaning one chemical was half what it should be, the next was double what is should be, the third was half, and the 4th was double. I do not remember the exact chemicals..I should have asked for a copy, but I didn't even think about it.

Nothing in particular on her is measuring small, it's her entire body. This "small measurment" is the only indication besides the AFP that she has downs. BUT, my due date could be off by up to 2wks...so that is what could be making her "small". I've noticed as well that my little one likes to have sudden growth spurts in between appts. One appt she is measuring small, the next is right on target, and then the third is small....

Does any of that answer/help? Lol...it's very late for me and I'm exhausted so I'm very sorry if none of what I just said made any sense to you!! :( LOL

i did not get any test done because they made it sound like i was going to make choise on keeping the baby or not but i can tell you that my darling kalee was born with ds and she did grow on the small side and she is still very small if you compare her. i am also 19 years old and she is my first child my husband is also 19. the one way to prepare is to know that your child is just a little bit more special than other and that means she is going to need a little bit more love and attention. one other thing to remember is to pray. do not to compare it will just make things harder if you do. i have had to learn that the hard way. i also had a few different due dates but she decide she was going to come when she wanted because was three weeks early. but that just three weeks more of her wonderful love and comfort she gives. i promise this is the last thing i hope i dont afend you in any way with this but God only sends special babies to special people.

The fact that fetus is small does not indicate that your child has DS. I have 3 children and my daughter with DS was my largest baby. Is there any specific reason why you think your baby has DS?

A couple of words of encouragement - don't let the doctors run all over you if it turns out your baby has a developmental disorder. Try to find a pediatrician who has lots of experience with DD children. National and local agencies can help you with this. Don't let a doctor or nurse tell you it is not possible to breast feed a DD child. I breast fed my daughter until she was 2 years and she is my healthiest child.
Find the agency in your area - county or state - that provides advocacy for families with DD children. They can offer you a great deal of support.

Please try not to worry about your baby being small as an indicator of baby having down syndrome. A 20 year old has a 1 in 1,667 chance of having a baby with down syndrome and you are at higher risk of having a baby that is low birth weight as well due to your age.I just had a baby 7 weeks ago and she measured small the whole time I was pregnant and I was sure of my dates because we had been trying for 2 years. My doctor, who was a specialist, always told me that we should go by the first u/s because it predicts the due date better. Once you get past a certain point u/s cannot predict the due date as accurately. My first u/s showed that my daughter was due on August 8th, however, I knew that she was due on July 28th. Just to show you how wrong u/s can be I will tell you something. My doctor was concerned about my baby being too small so he ordered a level II as well. The u/s showed that she weighed 5lbs 1oz. I had her on the same day due to preeclampsia and she weighed 5lbs 13oz. They can be off.
The triple screen is a test that screens your blood to detect fetal spinal defects and chromosome abnormalties, like down syndrome...It must be done between your 15th and 20th week of pregnancy for it to be accurate. It tests your AFP levels. If they are low it could be an indicator that your baby may have down syndrome. However, there are other reasons your AFP might be low including, incorrect due date and maternal diabetes.
Try to calm down and take a few deep breathes. Your baby will be perfect to you know matter what the case may be. CHildren are special and very precious and those with special needs can be even more special. If your baby is determined to have down syndrome just take it one day at a time and enjoy evey minute you have with her because they grow up so fast. Good luck sweety.

I am a Music Therapy student at Florida State University. We have the newest research, which is always improving, in music therapy.
First off, I want everyone here to be aware that Music Therapy can do wonders for those with developmental disabilities. Please look into it, or contact me for more information.

Also, I am trying to find the parent of a child with a disability to interview for research. It will only take about 10-15 minutes, and I can do it online. It will also be beneficial to all since it is research, and will only improve education and therapy. Please find me on AIM, my screename is YJs littleDoll
or you can e-mail me at [email protected]

I have been posting everywhere and have not found any volunteers. Thanks

I know HOW to biologically AVOID Down and all other Genetic Birth Defects, at a cost of ZERO.

My son was diagnosed with D/S and was only 4 lbs. at birth he is 4months and 1 week old now and is still only a couple of ounces over 8 lbs. I'm hoping he will catch up and have a growth spurt but to me he looks bigger everyday and I love him so much!

Birth Defects are RESULTS of Couples Procreating their children either knowingly, or UN-knowingly at predictable, AVOIDABLE WRONG Biological Combinations of WRONG BIOLOGICAL TIMES, between any given Couple. (A different PREDICTABLE Biological Mismatch Set of DAYS Combination, for EACH Different Defect.)

Since 1977, Dr. Alan-Felix HUNT of Louisiana has accurately PROVEN the exact, specific Biological CAUSES of MANY different Birth Defects in THOUSANDS of Cases. IF you DON"T know and follow Dr. Hunt's "Julian Planning System" you COULD 1. Marry the WRONG Biologically MATCHING Person and then 2. Produce screwed-up kids with any number of Defects Programmed into them by their Biologically-Ignorant Biological PARENTS at the very Moment of Impregnation, for EACH Child. General Society is SO messed up! Dr. Hunt's Julian System IS what the Germans in WWII were researching to find...a very possible "Master Race," but with a difference...Dr. Hunt's JULIAN SYSTEM is FREE to anybody and everybody, married couples who ARE GOOD Biological Matches and then whom ONLY Procreate their Children ant RIGHT Biological TIMES. (RIGHT TIMES/ WRONG Times..GET IT ???)

Humor yourselves with all this Blind Discussion, but the TRUTH and ANSWERS were just given to you FREE !!! Match up right with the right matching Mate and then Procreate your children at RIGHT Biological TIMES and simply AVOID ALL of the Heartaches and Misery...AND DEFECTS !!! . Dr. HUNT succeeded in doing what the Germans and many others sought to do and Find,, for CENTURIES: your "own" Family Master Race COULD be at your very fingertips.... and it's FREE for the asking, to Official Research.

Dr. Hunt is: [email protected]

Unfortunately, time does not permit him to answer all correspondence at this time. Presently, he is un-staffed. 11-28-11

HERE is HOW Julian WORKS: Each DAY of our lives IS numbered. Don't think in Terms of Months, or Years old, but rather, in total DAYS old. On any given day, each of us is so many DAYS old. Your SPOUSE is so many DAYS old today, most likely differring from YOUR Julian Age on THIS DAY. OK, those two irrefutable numbers are your Julian Numbers.

Next, compare how many DAYS old you and your Spouse were, ON THE VERY DATE your Defective Child was BORN and compare YOUR Set of Julian Numbers with OTHER Parents of their children with the SAME Defectr as YOUR kid has. (Same Julian Numbers, Same Birth Defect. THAT'S HOW Julian WORKS, on ALL Genetic Birth Defects !!!)

Julian is Dr. Hunt's Gift to Humanity !!! He has sat on Julian all these years because no one would listen, or believe him. Well, go try Julian for yourselves and discover that Dr. Hunt WAS rirght in 1977 when he first figured out the Innerworkings of Julian, ((working alone and un-funded) and many years later, Dr. Hunt is STILL RIGHT. Julian IS the ANSWER and the KEY to LIfe !!! Try it....you'll LIKE it !!!
