| I had someone in my neighborhood just call on me a few weeks ago. They reported that I was useing force with my 6 year old to get him across the street. They falled to mention that he was haveing a tantrum, and I was trying to get him home. I simply grabbed his armed a had to "lead" him across the street. No spanking, no dragging nothing, simply "useing force" is what they said. A lady came to my home and i asked how she would suggest for me to get him home when he is haveing a tantrum. The entire thing was ruled unsubstantiated. ↑ |

| i had the cops called on me for swating my so on the butt for biting a girl at the park hard enough she had to have stitchs when the cops 3 cars came my son was laughing and fine and i was told i should have done more. you cant win anymore displine is abuse and then you get accused of not doing enough. my son has autism ↑ |

| well let me tell you, i get alot of looks (like they would like to call cps) but none yet. but when you are in a grocery store and your child is throwing things (like cereal boxes and stuff) around and you are telling them to knock it off and they just flat out tell you to go take a flying leap!! then you get a little bit frustrated!!! and yes ive had poeple tell me that i should do more to him "beat his a--" or whatever but he has a problem he has a mental problem called ADHD and tourettes and sometimes he screames out fu__ you at the restarant when we are eating and poeple just look at me as if to say god! your child is a brat!!!! but you know, i just look at them and think you know what untill you walk in my shoes for 1 day you will never know whats happening! maybe he is having a bad day of tics that day or maybe didnt get his pill yet that day or its waring off , but they have NO RIGHT TO ASUME there is something going on unless they see you really get physical with your child . i wish you the best. you can chat with me if you would like to at . | hi i have a 7yr old boy im not sure if he has autism he is in a world of his own sometimes.Today for ex; he was at school and had a spoon in his hand and was a bit upset with some of the kids so he was chasing them of with the spoon.The teacher tried to get the spoon of him and calm him down.......but when she got in the way she tripped over him and then the principal had to come and get him .My son does not realise what he has done.He always playes on his own because he has noone his own age to play with at home wich makes it worse so can you please tell me what you think as im not sure what to do.Thankyou ↑ |

I have 3 boys with autism, ADHD and one has tourettes as well. I've never had CPS called on me, however, if I did I would make sure they had all my childrens medical and school records, have them talk to my kids developmental pediatrician, pyschologist, ot & speech therapists to make sure they understood their disabilities. I do know what it's like to be judged, stared at, made comments to like " Your child needs o be spanked or why do you let him act like that ". I used to brush it off but now I stand up for them and myself, and say " My child has special needs and mind your own *&&@ business ". Then I feel better and they don't make any more comments....ha...I've learned not to be cynical all the time and bitter because people are close minded and rude. Good luck.

CPS is child protective services and no I have never had them called on me (yet)but I wouldn't be surprised if someone does call on me someday. I have a 6 year old son with O.D.D. and O.C.D. and he is on Focalin (20mg) in the morning and 10mg in the afternoon. He is hard to deal with on a daily basis and I rarely take him to the grocery store or anywhere if I can help it. When I do take him places it usually ends up being a nightmare and I get the same stares for the tantrums he throws. I want to say something to these people who give you those looks and make the comments but I haven't yet. I think I am going to get to the point that I just lose it and start yelling at anyone who says something to me. They don't understand how it is dealing with a child with these special needs. If I am ever called on I will do the same and produce all of my son's records so they know what I am dealing with. As long as there are no marks on your child they can't do anything. They have to have proof of abuse not just speculation.
You can read more of what parents say on the adhd forum in this community, there is a lot of support there too. I go there and read what other people write so I know I am not alone. ↑ |
