I went for my 20 week ultrasound and they found 4mm of fluid in each kidney and a white spot on the heart. My doctor said these are down syndrome markers so I went and got a triple screen and everything came back normal. My doctor said I have a 1 in 1000 chance of having a downs baby and not to worry, but im still so worried. Should I be?? Has anyone gone through this before?

Caroline,

I just went for my third or forth ultrasound. My OB doctor sent me to the hospital to have another ultrasound done. The bright spot still has not went away. Now they are saying that my son has little bit than noraml fluid in his kidney. She told me that it was kind of common in boys to have a little fluid but not more than what it is supposed to be. SHe also said that she doesn't see anything wrong with the baby, that he is perfectly healthy but they want me to come back for another follow-up to make sure. Caroline this is what I can tell you from my heart. Don't worry about it. Will you accept the baby if it does have Downs? Remember this is still God's creation. I have worried about it too. But the only thing that makes me happy right now, is that he is alive, and he is moving. I have heard nothing severe about his health. I was told to get an amnio if I was interested. I chose not to. I don't want any possible complications to go wrong. How you are really going to know is if you get an amniocentesis done, where they stick the needle in your stomach/ the amnio, not close to the baby and get fluid out to test it. I don't want it done. If you get an amnio done it is for two reasons. One your worried, and if you find out you might want to be prepared for your child when it comes cause it will need special attention, and two, you probably won't accept it if it does have Downs. If the baby does Caroline, don't worry about it. They need love just like any normal baby. You know I've been reading through different forums and I have found two that had positive attitudes about Downs Babies. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck to you, I want to hear from you.
