Hi, my daughter is 18 days old, and me and my fiancee are planning to do a Justice of the Peace wedding till we save up some money for the church wedding. Before we call the judge to set up a date, do any of you have advice on what to ask when we call? We also would like to baptize our daughter that day or the day before/after the JP wedding since my fiancees best friend lives quite a ways from here and would have to fly in and all and would like to be here for both but cant afford to come 2 seperate times so we decided to do it like a 2 in 1 event and then just have a BBQ here at our house or my in-laws' house. When I call the church (we dont attend church, do believe in God and all) what do we say? "Hi my name is Jasmin, I'd like to have our daughter baptized at your church?" It's a Lutheran church since I am lutheran, my fiancee is catholic. Any suggestions/ideas on teh wedding and/or baptism please? Thanks :)

Hmmmm that is a hard one! I swear the sacrements cause more family strife...at least in my home. My hubby is former Methodist, but mostly non denominational, I am Catholic. We recently had a big old war here because my oldest son, baptised in a non den. church after birth, needed a Catholic baptism before he could have his first communion. I was fine with it, but hubby....erg!

Anyway I would say call the churches, state that you have not joined a church as of yet, however wish to have your infant baptised and see what they say. Some may require that you be a member first, others may go ahead and do it, hoping you will join them. Please let me know what happens!!

Yes just call and ask.......many churches have set regulations on these things.......
Just phone and ask to talk to the pastor, minister, priest, which ever they have, and go from there.

Congrats ion advance!

I would just call and ask. As for after that sounds great!!! After my girls baptisms we held a little reception at our house. My older daughter was baptized at the Sunday morning service so we had a brunch, and my youngest was baptized at the Saturday night service so we had a dinner reception. Good Luck and congrads on getting married.

We have an appt today at 5pm to meet with the Pastor. So I'll let ya know how that goes!!! We are also having a Justice of the Peace wedding May 11 or 12, the judge is going to call us today to let us know if he is willing to do it on that Saturday, if not then May 11. We'd like the baptism the same day then a reception at my fiancees parents' house for a BBQ or so....can't afford taking everyone out to dinner or a church wedding yet, so we'll do that in a couple years :)
