Hey I have a question...what would it take to open a day care? Or to watch some kids? I want to stay at home with my daughter (7wks old) but would love to bring an income in. I am doing Lavender Love (I just started) so I'm hoping that starts bringing in money soon!

Well
I am gonna talk to my fiancee about this more, and then might ask my brother if I can take care of his son Mon-Fri and charge them a bit less than they pay now at the daycare he goes to, so that way they are saving a bit and im making money

Mama Jasmin,
I use to operate a home daycare.........
Now there are a few different options available........I imagine things here in Canada may be different from where you are......
To watch a family member....here anyways...there are no real regulations.........plus it gives you the experience.....for if and when you wish to expand......
So let me know what you are thinking .....how large.....how many kids etc...and I will give you what ever advice I can.

i use to watch my friends kids. they were 3 and 5 months. i charged them 70 bux a week which was more than less than half the cost of daycare where we live. i think a daycare charges 60 a week per child now sometimes more. depends on the age. if you have a friend or relative to sit for i would start with that. then you will kind of get the feel for it and see if you can handle all those kids. lol

I watch 2 kids right now. One part-time and one full-time. It can be hard to do. Especially when you have kids of your own. I charge $100 a week for full-time. Daycares in town charge $150.00. I am lucky though. My husband is home during the day alot and he helps.

the real funny thing is that winnmom spent more time on this forum when she was running her daycare than she does now! guess she didn't watch those kids to closely or interact with them! let that be a lesson to all to be careful who you leave your children with!

Ludicris(M) If you would start minding your own damn business, then you would not have time to mind eveybody else's business!!.

Winn, hdc, momo...thanks for the advice....yeah makes sense to start with one and even a family member instead of watching more than one other kid besides my daughter...
I believe my brother pays $100/wk or something in that range...so I'd tell him like $75/wk or so...
well i want to start with one...then gradually increase if i can handle it...not sure how many kids i could handle myself until i try

Great idea Jasmin!! I am going to hopefully be watching another little girl in my 8 year olds class for the summer. This will really help as many times home businesses slow a little in the summer...hard to reach people at home, and many people want to wait and start in the fall.
