Years ago Oprah aired a show about do you have a plan under certain situations. They said it was proven that people who had a plan were more apt to survive a desperate situation. From what do you do if there is a tornado to what do you do during a robbery. One year later they again aired a follow up show, with all the individuals who had watched to show, and later had put those plans into effect when those things actually happened to them.
I have two children in College, and last night spoke to them both. My question was, Do you have a plan?
I explained to my son, that we were taught in this situation to all rush the gunman. Yes, one or two may be shot, but not dozens. He added a great answer, to throw things at the gunman before you rush him. Which I thought was a good idea. He is 21, so this is age variant. My daughters plan was to play dead. Which one student did, and survived. I explained to her how she must try to protect her head and torso.
Someone here may have a plan also. I am sick while I write this, but people have to discuss what to do with their children. Even the small ones will see it, hear about it. Having a plan may help. The school I worked at, had wonderful planning for this. Teaching the children the best position to protect their head and torso. I don’t want to write this, and no one want this to happen. But it does, so who has a plan. You can also call or e-mail your children’s school and ask them what plans they have in place, and how often they drill for it.
My children are in college and I now wonder if they even have locks on the doors, because they did not at Virginia tech. I will call my self and ask them, and I will ask them, what their warning system is, and mainly, what their plan is. I know we are all grieving for the families and friends of the victims. This I do believe can help in the future, to have a plan, and make certain all our children’s schools have a good plan.
It would be good for us all to compare plans for other things to, to what to do during a fire, to, a tornado, to a robbery. And anything else we can help eachother with.
