Hi I'm new to this site - I was wondering if any of you have dealt with failure to thrive in your children? My youngest has been struggling with weight since 3 months old (that's when I stopped nursing) - he is now 18 months and has gone from 20% on the charts to roughly -3% (Dr.'s are not exactly sure his weight % because the charts don't go into the negative side).

We have had all kinds of tests and blood work done and some things have come back but nothing significant enough to be sure of what is causing it.

He just doesn't want to eat and when he does it is in very little amounts. Looking back on his little life it is hard for me to believe now that he used to gain 2 lbs a month when I was nursing and now he is barly putting on 1/2 lb every 3 months.

Thanks

I am currently going through that with my daughter, she is 4 months and she had been at 25%, Monday we went for her 4month check up and she had dropped to the 5%. I am breastfeeding and the doctor wants me to supplement with formula, which I am against. But even if I wanted to supplement, she refuses to take the bottle and I have tried every bottle and nipple out there. I am working to increase my milk supply but she just won't nurse very long. She seems happy and content most of time and is meeting all her physical milestones. I am at a lost of what to do. I completely understand your pain, you cannot force a child to eat, and it is very frustrating, with the constant worrying if your child is truly okay. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you, I just wanted you to know you are not alone.
