My son is two and my mother in law bought him a bed for his birthday, more for the reason that it will save us some money(she is kind like that, she would give up her last penny to help someone!) Anyway do you think that two is the right age to go from a cot to a bed or should we leave it a little longer?
We tried it tonight but he just screamed so we put him back in his cot should we give it a try again tomorrow night or leave it for a while?
What did everyone do with their children?

What a good person your MIL is!

What's a cot? Is it like a crib (with enclosure)?

I just moved my son from a crib to a bed at 18 months. My daughter started sleeping in bed at 19 months. My son is not falling down!!! Though I put a blanket on the floor beside his bed for softer landing. My daughter had a couple of falls at night.

hey you know what. I just put my daughter in the toddler bed this weekend. The crib is still up and in the same room. But I was also wondering if she was to young. She does so well in her crib. But she is doing surprisingly well. She has slept in it for two nights now and two naps. So I dont think he is to young. But if he is ok in his cot or crib or whatever. Just make the transition when he is ready. If he is still small enough for the cot (is that a crib?) than let him saty in it for awhile if he isnt ready. Thats my advise. You know it isnt hurting him at all to saty in the cot for awhile longer.

Thats GREAT Lynn! I am excited for you! It is crazy we are both going through the crib to toddler bed transition. My daughter has slept in her bed for 3 night now. And lastnight we didnt even find her on the floor. And at night time I make sure when I put her to bed that she is really really tired. So I give her some wined down time. She will sit on my lap and we watch a little tv and cuddle. And as soon as I know she is completly relaxed I lay her in her bed. She has done really well. But I find nap time a little harder. So if you have your son asleep in his bed at nap time I think he is going to do fine. I kinda had to fight with Abbie today to get her to sleep. I use to just put her in her crib and shut the door and she would be asleep in less than 5 minutes. But today she got up and opened the door. So I had to put her back in bed which she didnt like to much. But she finally fell asleep. I am headed in to check on her now to see if she is sleepin on her bed or on the floor!! LOL Good luck n keep me posted on his progress!!

Children are much more adaptable than we think, I learned that from my two toddlers. They will sleep on a new bed, on the floor, on the plane, in a hotel room - the only thing they need is to know that you are close, his security. Amazing.

Of course, now I have a pair of eyes peeping through the glass door though he is supposed to sleep... That's the drawback - he can now get off the bed...

We put my daughter in a toddler bed from her crib a few months ago. She will be three next month. I really just built up to the time we were going to make her start sleeping in it. Kept saying Big Girl Bed and brother will get the baby bed. She seemed to do great. I have friends who switched their kids to big beds before two. Every kid is different.

Every child is different. My first son was ready at 21/2 and had already fallen trying to crawl out of his crib. My baby now is almost 2 1/2 and he shows no effort to "escape" and seems perfectly content to lay in there and go to sleep every night, so I will probably wait until he is at least 3.
