Hi my name is Karyn and I am a first time mother. My daughter is 8 months. I feel guilty for setting her in the play pen durring the day while I clean and do stuff around the house. I play with her in the morning and at night. However, I feel guilty for wanting to get things done and not interacting with her all the time. Is this normal or do I need to change things? help

It's really okay to sit her in her play pen every now and then. If it help you feel better and she will actually stay where you sit her, place a playmat or blanket in the room that you are cleaning and let her play. But again, putting her in a play pen is fine. I use to sit my son in an excersaucer when I cleaned the house.

Thank you, for making me feel better. I feel so guilty some times and my family thinks I am over reacting about it. I want so much to give her the best educating interaction but I come to realize that to do that you would have to let everything around you drop. I am studing to be a teacher and all the books you read stress the importance of learning from day one but I am starting to realize the authors of those books must not have kids because what they expect you to do is not feasible.

I did the same thing with my first child. I even asked my mom to sit him while I cleaned. LOL. My mom and all her friends would laugh at me. It is pretty funny. You will get accustomed to it. Play baby music or nursery rhymes for him. Or Beethoven.

Oh my I have done the same thing recently. When anyone would come to visit I would place her with them while I cleaned. They laughed

I have to do the same things with my kids. I have to put a long movie on for my 2 year old when I need to make a phone call in silence. I think it is ok as long as it isn't all day and all the time just for a short bit. May even be good for them to spend time just playing by themselves.
