Me and my husband both work full time I live in ontario canada where you can take a year off but you only get 55% of your regular wages, We own a house and only have one decent vehicle which is a necessity out in the country we live from pay check to check as it is and do not over spend it all goes to bills, I don't think I can afford childcare and my relatives are all still working full time so i can't get cheap or free babysitting. I want to stay home at least a few months with my son who is due in June how do you Moms do it?

Since you know when you will be needing the time off and for how long try to save ALL extra money from now until then. For instance if you usually go out to lunch or dinner during the week skip it and put that money in savings. Also, if you don't already, start buying your groceries on sale, with coupons, and try generic, did you know most generic brands are actually the name brand that the store or whoever bought rights to? I can save between $30-$60.00 on groceries each time I go using the suggestions above. For when the baby arrives try breast feeding -- it's free, and extremely healthy for the baby. You can also save a lot of money on diapers by not buying the name brand. Since you are in Canada I don't know if you have Walmart and CVS but both of those stores have great diapers under their name. You can also cut down on how much your utilities are, turn off the lights, lower the thermostat, and don't run the water when you're doing the dishes, brushing your teeth, etc... showers are much less expensive than baths. These are just a few suggestions. I hope I've helped. Good luck.

I'm in Canada, too. I've counted: if I go back to work, the job taht I can get according to my training would be in the city (we live in a rural area), so I'll need to commute. That's $400-500/mo on gasoline, $1000/mo for childcare for 2 kids, if I have to rent a cheap apartment in the city (instead 4 hours drive every day) that's $700 with util. Max I would have left is $500 a month, and my Canada Child benefit will cease. - so it's the same situation financially. If I take an unqualified job locally, then it's not worth it at all.

So I figured the kids will be better adjusted if I'm home with them, and our family atmosphere will be more peaceful. And I can always make side money with my computer.

We live in the US. We have taxes to pay each year- and the less dependents you have listed with your employer the more they take out. So we claim we have no children so they take a huge chunk out every week. Then what happens is you have to file your taxes every year. When we do that we claim our children all that extra money we paid comes back to us. I'm not a very good saver- so if I had it I would spend it. We also camp for vacations. And I take my kids for a lot of walks in the park as things to to or continuous scope community events for free things to do to keep our lives exciting. One of the best things I did for my family (and myself) is I started working for a company that we have a monthly bill for (cable, internet and phone) so now that monthly expense is taken away and I get a small paycheck working parttime around my husbands hours. Hope these suggestions help.

My check(all of it ) goes on bills and my husband gives me half of his paycheck and that pays for food ,gas, and toiletries, cleaning supplies etc.His other half of his check goes for him on what he wants like beer, cigarettes etc.,toys for himself like model cars. Thats how we do it financially.Oh and I am given half of the incometax check each year to do with as I please so I use that to buy my son and myself new clothes and put money back for next years school enrollment for my son.

Hi Tan
I found a company through a friend you get free stuff and big coupons it is free. http://blog.bzzagent.com Call Bzz agent.
I also started usinfg Freeecycle ( you get frre stuff from folk that do not want it any more. It has worked great for me. I have a kitchen talble and sofa chairs & even got 4 movies tickets all for free. The Dollar store is where I go for cleaning products anf bath needs.Cleaning tim. hint for glass I use rubbing alcohol with 1\2 water in a spray bottle (I use to work at a maid service) it works great. Just do not use it on plastic. at it is .79 cents.
I use 1\2 of what you nedd for landury soap. I read you really do not need to use the amount they say .It is actually can be cut in half.I save all deposit bottles .5 per can . I put all change in a jar and bring it to the store\bank to get bills.I try and save this mony this is our fun stash. We actually were able to go away for 2 days with the kids with that money. We all needed it so badly.I am stating all over again. This money is not to be touched. I am the only one that know where it is and we do out best very to use it . This stash is now not going to get used untill x-mas. trust me it takes a long time untill change accumulates.
I hopethis is of some use.
Good luck.

Hi Tan,

I work from home full-time, I utilize an online program called ConsumerCandy.com. I wanted to recommend it to you as you appear to need some resources to save and make money. You can research them online like I did first, they have very good legitimate reviews. It’s free to join, and you get paid $5 just for joining. You also get paid $5 per referral.

They pay you cash for purchasing products & services from the merchants of your choice and offer huge exclusive discounts off all items. They also pay you to complete offers that are free to you, such as surveys, free trials, free stuff, and free contests. They have over 1000 offers, it’s an online shopping world.

Here's their link : http://www.consumercandy.com/

I joined a company called PhotoMax. I use it to save all my digital photos and every month or so I send in 100 of my printed pics to have digitized and put on my own website. I'll never have to worry about my computer crashing or unforseen occurences. They've loaded them onto my own website that I can pull up from anywhere. It's really neat. It does cost to sign up but if you go to my website and sign up for free you can get 20 free prints. Check it out. Not only can you do neat things with your own pictures but you can turn it into a business too!

I do an in home business called Pure Romance! it is an unbelievable company to be with....we are a in home party plan that is for ladies 18+ only! We have a variety of items in our product line....everything from massage aids, bath aids all the lotions and potions you could think of and of course we have adult novelties as well. There is so much about my business that I love and I could go on for hours, but one of the things I love the most is the instant gratification that I receive from my job! And I am not only talking about the financial aspect of it, I am also speaking of the gratification that women share stories with me about the most intimate part of their lives!! How cool is that? The product sells itself, and our training program is endless....we have no quotas or minimums, so you don't have a ton of pressure. It is a fabulous company....if you want to email me for more info you certainly can @ [email protected]

I do one main online businesses then free ones on the side for advertising money so the advertising doesn't come from my monthly paycheck. I also have just accepted a lot of sacrifices, things like going out that seemed important at the time, but is so worth being home with my boys. I am happier now then ever! This is the first I have ever been truly happy and life is too short to be wasting it being miserable!!
