Well, it might be nice I was thinking if we could learn without getting mad. Here is the thing. This is so funny. I have always been a republican. My whole family is republican, probably why I am. But recently I viewed a TV news show about both factions, and I got really freaked out because I seemed to side a great deal with democrats. I was laughing, and told my husband, Oh my gosh, I think I am a democrat. How could this happen? When I vote, I vote for the better man, not the party. The show I was watching was saying that the parties are dividing themselves more and more. People are moving all the way to the right, and all the way to the left. That many parts of the country are moving around to live in Red or Blue towns, or states, further more setting the wedge between the two parties. An example would be if you live in an area with many democrats and many republicans you learn to compromise and go toward the middle. But if you live in all red, or blue, you get more fanatical and less likely to compromise on issues. It was fascinating really. Maybe someone else viewed the show. So what also happens is, that say I am fanatical, then I go along with all of the views of my party. I went on line yesterday and looked up republican-Democrat test. I took it, I was back and forth, and when it was done it said I was in the middle. What does that make me? LOL.

I can completely relate. I was always republican, because I am pro-life, however I believe in taking care of children and families and offering hope and alternatives too. I became an Independant, can't vote in the primaries, but worth it to not be identified with any of the two extremes.

Are there other categories out there, and what is the middle category?

My husband said that the middle is a Libertarian? I guess that what I am too because I am also in the middle.

Oh good...Ive be dying to talk about this but everyone gets all mad or moves on to something else.
I was a republican for years only becouse my first husbands family was. And the pro-life issue. I"M VERY PRO-LIFE! But I Then I started listening to the Right views and the Left. Started doing my homework. Im like Im not a republican after all. So I switch parties I am now a Proud Democrat. Why because They focuse on the middle classes needs. Education ,Hearth care Who can aford college tuition now days. Our health care is a joke. Not to mention the policies of this war were in is making everything explode in the middle east. I just know I didnt vote for Bush neither elections. The only decision I agree with is the veto of the sten cel research.Other then that he has the whole world pissed off at us. Even Isael is thumbing there nose at us. I'm scared girls. Really scared.

The Bush/Kerry election where the one election that I watch every single debate on. I actually become attached to the TV, in the end I didn't think either canidate was a good canadate but I figured since this was an important election just like my husband had said I didn't want to waste a vote on someone else that would never make it into office. So I ended up voting Bush, again not because I thought he was the right canidate but at the same time I was scared to death about having Kerry in office. Through out the entire debate, Bush knew where he stood. Kerry didn't, in my opinion, he believe whatever I believe in and then in the next breath he believe whatever someone else believed in. It got the feeling that he felt which every way meant he was going to get your vote. On alot of the subjects they did agree, such a gay marriage, neither one of them thought it was right.

I agree that our health care is just getting crazy. As for the war I'm not really sure where I stand. In one moment I feel that we shouldn't be over their (I like using the line of, "Why can't we just put them into a bubble and just let them kill each other. No matter what we do, it's not going to change who they are.") But then again I think we should be over there because how long we can allow someone to threaten us before we say enough is enough. As for abortion I'm Pro-Choice to an extent, but pro-life for myself.

i was in the young republicans when i was a teenager i think i did it becouse my dad was a republican and so on but to be honest with you i dont always agree with either or on some issues i take one side and on others i take another side my brother on the other hand MAJOR democrat he decorated his car in kerry and edwards stickers. whatever!!! i dont vote for me theres just too much more going on than just two men standing there trying to get your vote besides i like to laugh at them to much on saturday night live!! dont get me wrong i do have views on certain things things that are important to me .

The show I watched also said that anyone in the parties must vote either entirely republican or democrat when they are in the house or they loose all of their support. They interviewed several people who said they would vote differently (laws and such) but their party would not allow it.

Layne,
I know, it is funny, I have noticed it also. But, we do also have different views on some politics. That makes no difference to me, hope not to you either.

This makes since to me now. From what I saw on TV there were many, many people (the voters) who believed whole heartedly in one side or the other. They completely shared their whole party’s views. Because they love to be red or blue. They simply accept or ignore the few things they don’t agree with, they still back it up, because they are red or blue. When I break it down, I now see that you really don’t have a chance to be voted into the presidential office if you don’t side one way or the other completely. And this is also how most voters are divided. I have strong views on either side, but it looks like you don’t count if you don’t play with the big boys

Thank you Etansmom for finding that out for me.

Hevens no. I ment we seem to find the same subjects interesting. I get sick of people that cant take criticism in politics. But I think it's a better discussion when we have to put our names now before people would get out of control and slam one another and stay anonymous. Now everyone cares because were friends.
It is important to stay with your party. Other wise nothing can be gained. My husband was a republican untill the Kerry /Bush election. he switched parties and now we are a Democrat house hold. HA! We caucused (spelling) for kerry, thinking with his military background and his opinion in the beginning. but then....(I hate to say it).... He flipped, flopped.
I like Al Gore alot. I dont think he always come off right. But if you get him off the campain trail he is very intelligent. He doesn't have the charisma Clinton had.

Name: rain | Date: Jul 21st, 2006 5:05 PM
LOL, poor CLinton had too much charisma for his own good, giggle.

I am all for putting my name on what I believe. As a country we will also believe in different things regardless of whether it is politics or just in our every day lives. This is what makes us who were are as individuals. It is sad that there are those who are unable to take a little critism. Personally I feel that on occassion you learn for what other people are saying. It may not be what you think but that doesn't make it wrong. I believe if you don't have anything to back it up then maybe you should really rethink how you feel about something because maybe if you had all or at least a little more information you may not feel the same way, but the again you may. A good debate it between those who have there information to back up what they believe and who can handle the critism. Politics is one of those places where if you can not take the heat you should stay out of the kitchen.

You should truely believe 100% in whatever it is you believe in not, rather it be 10 things from the democrate side and 10 things from the republic side. Now when it comes to the actually voting process, out country is not ready for a Libertarian president and may never be. So in certain cases, like the Bush/Kerry election you make a decision to make your vote count becuase in the end you already know it's either going to be a republican or a demcrate who is in office. Again, I voted for bush not because I thought he was the best canidate, I just couldn't see putting my life into someone hands who had no clue as to where he really stood. That's scarey.

But they all lie. Health care supposely has been a #1 priority since the get go and yet we are still were we started and in some cases even worse off. I guess right now the most important thing is the war.

Name: charla | Date: Jul 21st, 2006 6:11 PM
thats my point ethansmom they all lie its just sad you want to think that they have our best interest at heart and maybe some do but just get cought up in it all . just curious what female figure would you vote for anyone even if she is not a political figure?

Name: rain | Date: Jul 21st, 2006 6:20 PM
I know what I believe, and I am very strong, and opinionated on all the topics. LOL. I grew up with many back woods people, not a put down, a description, and always fighting about issues. Everyone where I came from had the same views. Here I come stirring the water. I just didn’t want everyone to argue. You see in my experience, there is always an argument, and then no one really learns anything. I agree we can learn from one another. I have much to learn on our government and the ways of the parties. But yea, it just seems sad. The more I learn the sadder it gets.

Good one Layne. Ha!

Everyone always says Oprah, although she says, she will never run. I like the whole idea of healing the world, and she is good at it. But have to tell you, If someone messes with us, I want a president who will kick but. Can you see Oprah kicking but? I will have to think about that one.

Name: Stacy | Date: Jul 21st, 2006 7:11 PM
I love this topic!!!
I can't discuss politics with my husband, he get's sooooooooo upset & angry that I don't think exactly like him, it's frustrating.

I like to look at both sides to an issue, & respect others right to belive the way they do. My husband is so far to the "right" that it's his way only.

I wish that our Congressmen & Senators would vote for what they felt was right, & not just along party lines.

The media is saying Hilary Clinton is going to run for president, would you vote for her? I wouldn't, she hasn't proved herself yet. But, that's just my opinon.

Oprah for sure. she gets things done and everyone gets motovated. I love her. I have been a oprah fan since Day one and I was only 18 or 19 when her show started.
As for Hillary I dont know, maybe a VP.
I really like Joseph Biden- he is very smart about forein afairs.
I tink he is one of the smartest when it comes to Irac. John Edwards is good at health care, education. Americas needs.

Yea! Like in the color Purple when she comes stomping through the cornstalks swatting them down to the ground, And she says
YOU TOLD HARPO TO BEAT ME!
Ceily says: This life be over soon, heaven lasts forever.
Sophia says: GIRLLLLLL YOU BETTER BASH MISTERS HEAD IN AND THINK ABOUT HEAVEN LATER!
That is my favorite line of all time. I am reading the book again now for the 12th time.

What about Barack Obama, Every time I see him on TV I like him. He was also on the show I saw on TV. I don’t know what he believes, but he was also saying what I stated earlier about the separation of the blue and the red. Anyone have info on him.
