My daughter is 3 months old, and she's drooling alot at the moment (we think she could be teething) and sucks her hands alot. She's got a weird rashy type thing on her chin? Is there anything I could put on it? It doesnt seem to be hurting her or anything...?

Also...I was in hospital last week, when I came home she had cradle cap, Do all babies get it? or is there a specific cause? And is cradle cap shampoo the best cure?

Thanks xx

At the moment it's only a little bit of cradle cap, but I guess it get's worse if left?

yes they do drool alot. just keep it dry. but don't wipe the chin, just dab it with a cloth.

cradle cap is normal..Lex had it too. when you wash her hair just make sure that her head doesn't stay wet for too long....quickly take a towel and dry her her really well....then rub some baby oil on her head and leave it on for half the day and then with a soft brush, brush her hair....you'll see the flakes lift off, then rinse her head and then do the baby oil one more time for the day....never pick it off with your finger.

some say to do the baby oil thing only once a day, but i'd do it twice a day...lol....yep...it's icky isn't it....and it smells....lol....

Hey Nicola....

Yeah......well, lol.....my guess is that wee rash is due to the drool and fist working against the skin on her chin that way. I cant.......think.....what you might put on it......for the moment....almost as impossible as it is.....just try and keep her chin as dry as possible.

As for that cradle cap lots of babies do.....the nurses could tell you better......but i think most do. Anyway.....they too might have some good suggestions.....me,....after tub and hair wash when good and dry i used to take those........ooooooooh so soft baby brushes.......and just.....brush gently. She found it soothing too. Over time it would come back......but i just kept doing that........cuz dry skin.............HAS to be itchy right.......so if you can get rid of it.......it has to provide more comfort. Anyway........it just did go away fairly early on. Just food for thought hon. :)

Thanks you girls...

Would sudocreme or vaseline be good to put on her chin?

Thanks for the tips with the cradle cap girls...i was frightened that maybe Paul or my mum had irritated her scalp somehow but if it's normal than I can relax a bit more.

It's not bad at this age for her to have her hands in her mouth is it? I know as they get older it can push their teeth forward? But I don't let her have her dummy during the day...only at night.

hon..........totally normal for them to shove their little fists in their mouths. Trust me.....at some point.....you'll wonder .....sweet louise......HOW does she jam the whole thing in there???? and then they choke lololol........dont worry......the fist comes out real fast. Just what babies do. All of em........i would be willing to bet. But just a nickel, cuz there has to be one that didnt lol.

I wouldnt put anything on her chin........why cuz the drool the fist all mixed together.......will end up in her mouth. just keep it dry as possible........all you can really do. UNLESS someone like Michele knows of a natural non toxic sort of thing you could use. I dont.

I put sudocreme on everything the twins ever had wrong....but Im very paranoid with Sofia. She's getting more jabs on Wednesday, I think I'll just ask the nurse then....it doesnt seem to be hurting her...it's just cosmetic really. Thanks maxie

I have always had very sensitive skin, and when I was a baby, they used lots of creams with steroids in...which we think is why I have so many skin allergies today....so i am very careful with Sofia what gets used on her.

Hi Nicola!! For the rash on the chin, just try to keep it as dry as possible, I know easier said then done!! As for the cradle cap, try not to wash her hair as often. Babies don't need a bath every day and what that is is dry skin on the scalp with the harsh baby shampoo. They are not out playing and you wipe her tushie every time she goes and that is the only real dirt going on!!

that made me laugh out loud Bmes!! lol....and thanks michele...I think maybe that could be our problem...I bathe her alot....probably too much then.

Thanks ladies, Im off now. bye

My kids had perpetual rashes on their little chins... Alison is a drooler when she sleeps and because she sucks her thumb, sometimes the corners of her mouth still get rashy.
Man sudocreme is the BEST!!! You can't get it in the states. I had a good friend from England and everytime she went back there she would bring me a big tub of it. When Colin was an infant we would get horrible bloody diaper rash and Sudocreme was the only thing that made it better....

HOW ARE YOU NICOLAA???

Colin had really really bad cradle cap and baby oil and a baby brush did the trick.
