Just wanted to tell you how amazingly mature you seem to be, at 18 ! Usually, writing of a 18 year old teenager would be - writing of a teenager. You seem eons ahead of them. I have an old friend, she never had a father and her mother had a job that kept her on trips for weeks. So the girl literally brought herself up. And now, at 42, she seems to be the one to have the strongest core of a character, out of all us who grew up with both parents and conventional families. You remind me of her.

It's just my daughter is only 14 short years away from your age (and, at 42, I know how short 14 years are). It's just mind boggling. Good for you!

I noticed that also. Wish my 24 year old son was the mature.

Thanks so much. I hear that a lot, but I always feel really validated when someone says it. I may only be 17 (not 18 quite yet) - but I am in the same boat as all of you guys, and it's hard work.
As for other people my age being on the same page as me, and doing the things I'm doing - It's a good thing that they aren't because if they are then someone went horribly wrong in their parenting, which was the case for me. I truly believe in kids being kids - it just wasn't an option for me. I do sometimes wish that I was in highschool (not college) and going to prom (not work) and dating a hunk (well, I am married to a hunk - maybe I lucked out there, lol) and babysitting (not raising a 6 year old)... but it works for me.
All that being said, in my professional life I have to really demand to be viewed as an equal, and not let my age be an issue either way. I am extremely touchy about people knowing my age in real life, and would rather they assume I'm in my mid 20's. I'm not quite so defensive in here though.

THATS THE GREAT THING ABOUT THE FORUMS YOU CAN REALLY SAY WHAT YOUR FEELINGS ARE WITHOUT THE WORRY OF BEING JUDGED. ISNT IT SAD THAT WE CANT BE OURSELVES IN REAL LIFE. ANYWAY WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE EACH OTHER. I DONT THINK AGE MATTERS A BIT.WHEN I WAS YOUNG ABOUT 15 I MOVED TO A NEW TOWN. I HAD A HARD TIME FITTING IN (OR SO I THOUGHT) MY BEST FRIEND WAS 34. SHE HAD A LITTLE GIRL THAT WAS 4 AND WE DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER. I HAVE A NIECE THAT IS 24 SHE IS IN LAW SCHOOL NOW. BUT WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG WE WOULD STAY UP LATE AND TALK FOR HOURS SHE WAS ABOUT 9. VERY SMART AND MATURE. AGE DOESNT MEAN A THING.

Wow girls missed this thread too.....but I am in agreement with E. Nicole I so enjoy talking (typing) to you. I noticed when I first registered....and got back to the forum....I thought you were nearer my age....! Anyway hon its all very true and you are taking care of all your issues very well and be pleased with yourself...sounds like you are.....but too I imagine you know....not many teenagers are together as you communicate.

The drinking thing though hon....if that was you I kind of forget....I hope it passes in time.....it can distroy you. I am not passing judgement I have no right ....just concerned and do understand it may just be a period of time in your life....many of us we there too...yup me also. But at about 25 I had had enough. The lights at the club went on at closing one day and I took a good look around. Girls spralled all over some guy. Someone pukeing ...another argueing....ya get the picture. The lights for me went on then too.........gadds at times I looked and sounded just like the rest..........yuck! That was it for me and I have never looked back. Once in a while on a cookin hot day later at night I love a ice cold Corona with the lime slice...but just one or two.

You arnt out hanging around a club or pub I imagine no time.....that was me....but I do hope honey it will pass. That all.

It is me that's an alcoholic Maxi, but I haven't partied in years. I was a home drinker when i was drinking recently, but i've been sober now for a while. I am back to meetings and dont have any intention of picking it back up ever again. Especially now (i'm pregnant.)
