Hello ladies, I had a question for all of you about nap time. My son is 18 months old and he takes two naps a day one at 11am till about 12:15pm and then again at 3:15pm till 5pm. Its so hard making plans for anything because i need to be back so he can take his nap. When did you guys switch to one nap.

If your son still needs to take 2 naps I would have to say let him. It's just that I have a son who is 2 and he still needs 2 naps during the day or he gets very cranky and in turn we can't go anywhere in fear he'll throw a sleepy-induced tantrum. There's not really much you can do unless you want a cranky butt on your hands. Sorry, looks like we have no choice but to wait until our little ones are ready to cut down on naps. Good luck though! :o)

My both kids started switching to one nap at 14 months. That is, they would stay alert and wanting to play at their first nap time. By noon they would be getting tired and would take a longer nap, 2, sometimes 3 hours. Basically they let me know when they were ready to switch.

I have been quite luckey as regards to naps.Andrew has one long nap a day from 2pm to 5pm(sometimes 4pm)So if i want to go out i can in the morning.
But i agree with Mommy if he stills needs these naps then let it carry on,but it is ok to break your routine once in a while!

Thankyou all for your comments. I know all kids are different, sometimes he seems like hes not ready for his first nap and he will just play and then sometimes he cant even make it for his first nap hes so cranky. so sometimes i think he might not need 2 naps but sometimes i think there is no way he could do it with just one nap, so i guess ill just wait and see.

Mellisa, I let my daughter decide, sounds silly I know, but as she got older she seemed more able to make it through and when she stopped trying to take a nap, I only had her take one nap in the afternoon,. Do you feel you son is ready to only have one nap?

Hello Mom of 3. I dont know if he is sometimes it seems like he is like when its time for his first nap and hes wide awake playing but then there are times when hes so cranky and tired that he cant even make it for his first nap. Its just hard trying to do anything because of his two naps.

I know, I haven't managed to get my girls to nap at the same time. My little one still naps 2 times a day and my older girl only naps once in the afternoon. It is hard to do!

My son is 2 and depending on the day depends on whether or not he takes a nap. He usually goes down about 12 and sleeps until 2 or 3 depending on when he actually falls to sleep. As far as switching from one nap to two, he pretty much did this on his own. So I would also say that if he still needs 2 naps during the day let him.

He may be going through a growth spurt which can be the cause of why he is cranky on some days and fine on others. It's not uncommon for kids sleeping patterns or eating habit to change while they are going through a growth spurt. During this time he may actually switch himself to one nap a day.
