I had a baby boy last December so he is nearly 5 months old now. Since he was born he hasn't stopped crying. Everyone told me that he calm down after the first 3 months but he is only getting louder. Sometimes he screams for 20-30 minutes non stop. I've asked my mother who had 3 children including me and she siad that it is normal and I have to just take it. Im so tired because I can't get any sleep. I shouldnt complain because the doctor said he is healthy. I just need to get some rest. I feel so depressed. i love him so much but it is so hard. Sometimes when he starts crying I just don't have the energy to pick him up. My husband is a teacher so he has to work everyday but even he can't sleep well at night. My baby doesn't cry that much at night but during the day it is so hard.
Why do you think he cries or whinges so much?
Can anyone who has experienced this with their baby give me some advise?

I kinda know where you are coming from! My baby boy (Ryker) is 10 weeks and sometimes I get so overwhelmed. I get very frusterated when nothing I do gets him to stop crying. And everyone also tells me its normal and that my first child was just extra good. So I just wasnt exspecting him to cry so much. My son sleeps almost through the night but during the day I am constantly trying to get him to stop crying. Some days are worse than others. But what I have found is babies dont sceam unconsolably for no reason. It is because they need something. I have found Ryker would cry becaus ehe didnt like the ceiling fan blowing on him. (dont ask how I fifured that one out) but he also gets very crabby if he is hot (understandably).

Speaking of crying babies mine needs me. Takako if you would like to talk I will be on in a little bit!!

i agree with the previous ladies. babies don't cry just for the helluvit! there has to be something upsetting him or hurting him. have you tried putting on some soothing music or even kids music? i used to with my daughter. i would turn it up louder than necessary, and she would get quiet and listen to it. my daughter also cries if she is hot. she is 5, and God forbid the house get above 74 when she's trying to sleep. i can't blame her though. i'm quite the witch when i'm hot too. does he take a pacifier? have you started him on solid foods? if your pediatrician stands firm that there is nothing wrong with your baby, maybe get a second opinion. i know if it was me, i would want to know for sure. oh, and one other thing, i'm not sure where you live and under what circumstances, (weather, if you work, etc), but my daughter LOVED being outside. i would take her playpen or her bouncy chair and just sit her outside. just an idea.....

I live in Japan and it is summer now so the temp will soon be around 35-40 Degree Celcius. I forgot to say he tends to scream more when he wakes up. I have to hold him for at least 20 minutes till he stops. The doctor told me to start him on solids about 2 weeks ago. He doesn't want the bottle now, he only wants to be breast fed.
Thanks for your advise. I think I will try and get a second opinion.

if you are breastfeeding it might be something you are eating that is bothering his tummy. have you tried to change your diet? try not to eat spicy food or things that cause u gas because it will cause the baby to be gassy also. he might be alergic to dairy so maybe try and cut out milk and cheese for a while and see if it helps. if i eat brocoli then i bothers my little one. anyway good luck and i'm glad to hear your breastfeeding.
