I live ten hours away from my family and sometimes I fly but a lot of times I like to drive so that I have a car at my disposal the entire time I am there. To keep the car from being a total pig sty I bring a lot of plastic grocery bags with me and EVERY time I stop I clean up. If my husband or someone else takes the trip with me I have them do it between stops also. To keep the little one occupied I asked my husband for a portable DVD player for Christmas and I am so glad I got it, it's great. I pack a few movies, an etch a sketch, some books, a few little dolls (strawberry shortcake, etc), and snacks into a backpack. When the toys and books start to lose their appeal I hook up the DVD player and enjoy the silence. Our car trips have been great since!

The portable DVD players run anywhere from $100.00 - $600.00 that I saw anyway. Just make sure you test it in the store to make sure the picture and sound are to your satisfaction. This will make your car trips so much more enjoyable and if you have another adult to travel with you can sit in the back seat and watch too. P.S. Make sure you buy the carrying case, it has straps included so you can suspend the DVD player from the back of the seats or in the middle of the two front seats.
