I have been home with my son for 14 months. I am going back to work next week and have enrolled him into a daycare close by. I took him to tour the center twice and he clung to me each time. Is this normal or should I try another center?

HI, I am a child development officer and i would say it is perfectly normal for a child to be a bit clingy when visiting a new place for the first, or even second time. What i would think more about would be the other children who were there - did they seem happy and well settled? What about the staff, were they friendly and welcoming? Did you feel as though you could ask questions? was there information available on what your childs day would be like?
If your gut feeling about the place was good, and its just your childs reaction to it - stick with it and you will soon be able to tell if it is the place for him.
If your gut feeling was- i dont like this place - handy for you or not - find somewhere else!!
Hope that helps!

I work W-F. My son clings every Wednesday but I had a great feeling about the daycare and even though he cried the first 2 weeks, now he loves it and it's only Wednesday where he's a bit clingy. I like donlouq's answer...trust your gut first and then be prepared to shed a few tears of your own.

Of course it is! He's thinking,"you're not leaving me here,oh no you're not!" But he will get used to it fast and then you might have to struggle to get him to go home with you! lol
