My son and daughter have both been diagnosed as ADHD. I am also ADHD, and fortunately as a pre-k teacher of 20 years have worked with these children frequently. I am always doing research and found out about the Daytrana Patch about 2 years ago. I took the research reports to my son's doctor and we switch him to Daytrana. It has been a miracle medication for my 6 year old . He is in Kindergarten this year and is at the top of his class testing on a fourth grade level. Keep the faith, it does get easier to handle. We are waiting a few months before putting my daughter on Daytrana, but I have confidence it will be a positive experience for her as well. I have cut all food additives and food coloring from my children's diets, as well as sugar substitutes. Research everything on the internet and take it to your doctor you have a right to bring any information and you are always your childs best advocate] GOD BLESS

Hi Jess25, my 14yr old son has adhd, odd and posible asperges syndrome, his first medication was strattera, when he first started on it althou a larger dose than your son, he was like a zombie, our house was for the first time in years "quiet!" i couldnt believe that he could change so dramatically in a few weeks. Unfortuantly my son started to change back to how he was when he was at his worst which believe me was almost like living hell for the rest of my family, obviously he had to change his meds to concerta xl which so far has been excellent althou he still has times when he is difficult. Maybe you need to see the doctor again to increase the dosage or change meds. I do know what you are going throu with teachers i had phone calls every day for 2 years from my sons school they really are not trained in dealing with adhd kids. Hold on in there because it will get better. Good luck

My son is now 7 and has been going through various meds since he was in pre-k. I tried ritalin once and he became a violent person...he said he would kill us all! I took him to the er and they wanted to commit him! He now takes a brand new drug called Vyvanse 30 mg capsuls. It's great! Sean, my son, has a very high motabolism, so gets acclimated to meds rather quickly, so he also takes adderall in the morning to help kick start the day. It also helps to calm him when he gets hyper rather than let him get the energy out. The school is finally going with me on this. They were sending him to the gym to get out his energy, but it was making it worse. He has ADHD/ ODD and depression. Loud noises scare him and he has an I.Q. of 120. Today I taught him to play chess and he already understands it. Video games that are educational are great! He can sit down and play them for as long as I will allow, anything else he does is just caos for him after a while. The best game I have found for the mind is Super Mario Sunshine and its for all ages (for anyone interested) it plays on the game cube, This game has no violence and is nothing but different "puzzles". What I mean is, the kids have to figure out what to do, or how to accomplish something to move on in the level and it really makes them think. Its a Mario Bros. game I even like to play! LOL. Otherwise, for the parents, like me, who want their kids to not play so many video games, the V-Flash and V-Smiles are great! They are video games, yes, but they keep the kids learning at all times. And 9 times out of 10 they love it. The commercials were not lying! I hope my endless blabbering has helped at least some of you that are trying not to pull out your last few hairs left in your head! And for your sanity...yoga and meditiation after bedtime is a great relaxer too...if you have the time/ energy left!

Hi, this is my first time on a forum, My 5 1/2 year old has ADHD/ODD. he was diagnosed at 3y/o. He has been on 6 or 7 different med's., unfortunately the amphetamines don't work on him. He has been on 150mg wellbutrin and 1 mg. risperidol for over a year. This combination has been the only one to work, and when I say work, I mean about 75%. But that was enough to get him through pre-k @ Gramercy, Which we wish went up further in grade, but it doesn't. This is the best school for children with disabilities in nyc. ges 2-5, it's a part of YAI. Anyway, he has not been adjusting well to kindergarten. He went from a class of twelve to an inclusion/CTT class of twenty five. He has been having the kind of outbursts that he had at three, before the meds. We saw his ped. neuro/psych who put him on Serequel 100mg and stopped his risperidol. He also suggested that it was time for us to see a strictly pediatric psychiatrist. Does anyone know of a good one in nyc. and what do you think of the new combination. I can't see much of a difference on the serequel, but it's only been three days. Also I need a private school that knows how to deal with ADHD children and their behavioral issues. Please help so he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

My son is 5 and was recently diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, ODD, and bipolar. We have been giving him risperidone at night and strattera in the morning. This seems to be working really well. He actually sleeps now and is not so aggressive. hope this is helpful.

I would like to know how many parents with children with adhd odd etc have a history of either bi polar themselves, or indeed their parents. I have an ex wife who has mental health issues, undiagnosed, but very obvious. My son who I have no contact with, she write's online has above disorders?

If I have any kind of sugar, my parents see a change in my attitude/mood. I can go from happy to mad to pissed off and depressed in the matter of minutes. My mom always tells me I an sugar sensitive, and I probably am. I hate the feeling I get if have sugar, but I can't resist.
On to of that, for a long while I have this tendancy to just piss people off. Sometimes I think it's funny. Other times I feel bad. I wonder if it's from the sugar. Plus, I curse, and treat my parents disrespectfully and don't expect any kind of concequence. And it's hurting my family. I cant concentrate in school, and i fail. what can I do? I hate this. But I can't help it. It's taking me over.

I was diagnosed with OCD a year ago, but I have struggled with it all my life. Over the years it has gotten worse. Sometimes it can be extremely hard to deal with.

I have a soon to be 6 year old who is defiant, obnoxious, hyper ect. I have had him to dr's and I am convinced that he has ADHD. No professional has confirmed this yet. I am at my wits end and I am beginning to think that I am starting to develop an anger issue. I get so mad that I want to hit him. I want to be mean. He is my youngest of two boys they are 10 monthes apart, my husband passed away 4 years ago. With "pete's" behaviour the way it is I notice even my family members treating him differently that they treat my oldest. I am just as guilty. I feel absolutely horrible admitting this and I seek help in controlling my feelings, I sometimes sit and think if I had to choose one child betweent the two that I have I would let "pete" go. And then I cry, I bawl my eyes out because that is not how I want to feel, its not what I want to think, its not what any responsible mother would ever in their entire life do.
I am having a harder time dealing with this as friends and family even strangers on the street notice he is a "bad" child.

"Pete" is extremely mean to our small dog, lies, runs away (im talking down the road) I have had police officers bring him home after I have scoured the neighbourhood, defiant, will not do something on his own, if his brother wants gravy on his potatoes so does "pete".... I have reverted to asking Pete first now, even then he takes about 60 seconds to even answer me.

Do I be persistant with the dr's,
I have had to go to my family dr and request an anti anxiety to deal with this. HELP HELP HELP HELP
