My son has just been diagnosed with ADHD and we have been shown the choice of medications just wanted to know some opions about them and anything about them. My husband has ADHD and is on medication because of depression as well and it runs in the family as to say all of my husbands cousins are all boys and they are all have it or something branched off it and there is one girl who seems to have missed out on it. I just want to know anything and everything before making any decisions.

Concerta works well. Also, don't be afraid of Ritalin. I know it has a bad reputation, but it really works well. It has been improved over the past 20 years and now comes in long acting as well as slow release forms. Email me if you have questions. Jennifer

My son is 6 and is taking Ritalin 10mg twice daily. I have found that whilst under the influence of the Ritalin he is fine but once it wears off, he is climbing the walls. I am looking into alternatives for him and i am seriously thinking about trying Synaptol. It works and it doesnt have any hidden dangers.

I would say you need to make sure that it is ADHD. I have come to find out that if depression runs in the family that some kids could have it and not ADHD because the doctor says that they can have the same type of signs as depression. My children are going through doctors and evals to try to determin if it just isn't depression. I have been struggling with doctors for 5 years on different types of meds and none are helping and this last doctor I went to is said to be the best specailist in childrens mental health in my state. I hope some of this can help. I just hate to see children bounce from meds to meds like mine have.

my son is about to turn 7. I went for many years keeping my distance from the medication. Finally i got to breaking point. I couldn't go to work, i refused to see friends and tried to put distance between my family and myself. He was stressing me out to a point where i couldn't fuction through each day. Finally i gave it a go and my life hasn't been the same since. The medication really helped change things. My son is still the same person he always was but it calms him down a little and now we enjoy more happy moments than before. It doesn't fix everything but it sure helped me. Im back at work and seeing my friends and finally happy again. Not stressed so much. My advice is give it a go it might make the difference between more happy fun moments and less stressful depressing moments

My son is on Adderall and Risperdal. The Adderall seems to help him in the morning before school stay calm and have a good day. It has helped alot. He takes the Risperdal when he gets home from school and that also helps keep the rest of the day less stressful (sometimes). I hated putting him on medication as well, I fought it for a long time but eventually had to give in when I felt like I couldn't take it anymore. He was driving everyone in our house crazy and ever since he has been on medication it has helped tremendously.
