I'm practicley a stepmom of an eleven year old. Her father and I have been dating for 6 1/2 years. In October 2008, he gained full custody of his daughter. Last Thanksgiving, they moved in with me.
His daughter and I butt heads alot and feel like she is old enough to show she learns from her mistakes. Ultimately she is a decent kid. She is polite and kind and thinks of others. However, when she gets home, she talks back to me all the time and is portraying habits five year olds have, such as leaving trash all over the house. I have told her repeatedly to throw it in the trash can but she still doesn't listen.
When I scold her, her father and I argue.

I feel like I don't matter and I'm not part of the family. I also feel like the sacrafices I've made don't matter. I'm the only mother-figure she has and I just want what is best for her.

I could use some advice on how to keep the peace and not lose my mind.
