I thought we might start a recommended reading list. Parents what books have you read about autism, or books for children with autism that you would recommend.

I have researched for a while now how to explain autism to one of my students. I received great advice from a few parents who had experience with this topic. I found several books on this topic, but they were not moving in the positive direction I felt the process should be about. I did recently find a book I love. It is written for the children themselves. The title is “I Have Autism” A child’s first look at autism. By Pat Crissey. It comes in a package with information for the parents, and a CD to make work books for the children. I highly recommend this book to parents who are introducing their child to his or hers dx.

The Out-of-sync Child Has Fun by Carol Stock Kranowitz. It has lots of fun activities for your child to do depending on what their sensory issues are. I refer to it a lot. You can also use the book for ideas for your neuro typical kids as well. I love this book.
