Can anybody tell me why my two year old autistic daughter will not say MA MA or DA DA. She says other things like "white flower" or "purple balloon", but has never said Ma or Da. Does she love us? Does she know we are her parents? I'm very confused. Also, when somebody is leaving like my husband or my mother, I will say "say bye-bye to Daddy...and she will stare at him as if she wants to say bye, but never does. It is so sad. Since my daughter was just diagnosed, I am still learning what it means to be autistic. Can anybody explain any of these things to me?

Austisic children learn in different ways, some have an easier time with colors or object. But names are hard to comprehend. My son who is 5 is just now understanding when he looks at my picture that I am Mama. He can not say his name with out being prompt, but he can name every dinosaur there are.

A book that might help you understand more about autisim is;
The Everything Parent's Guide to Chilren with Autism

This book helped me greatly. Also, one suggestion is to see a specialist that deals with autism. This may help you an your child.

Autism: a condition affectubg the procesing, integrating, and and organizing of informtion tht significantly impacts communication, social interaction, functional skills and educational perfomance. There are many manfestations and degrees of severity within the autism spectrum.

Thank you for your response. That does make sense because she does have an easy time with colors and objects. But names are difficult for her. Example, when I say "Lori can you give Daddy a strawberry?" she will give it to me. Or when I say "where is Lori's eyes?" she will always point to my eyes. Very confusing to say the least.
