I have a 2 year old son who has been diagnosed with ASD. He doesn`t speak put communicates with pecs or pulling me. His eye contact is improving and he is affectionate, however he is having more tantrums and has started to line things up and open and close doors alot. I have heard ABA can help but I have also heard it can upset a child or give them psychological problems when they are older. Can anyone share their experiences with me ? thank you

Hi, I don't know what ASD is, is it autism spectrum disorder? anyway, we are doing an aba program at home with my son who is almost 4 for 25hrs/wk. I was very hesitant about doing aba too. I heard it makes them robotic . But so far it's really the only thing that proven to get them talking. I'd say do it but make sure he has play time in his program and they addresss all the "generalities".I did not like pecs to be used because I know my son has a few words and will talk. I've heard pecs doesn't encourage children to speak becaue they never have to with pictures as cues. Hope that helps.
