G'Day, from an Aussie mum of an ASD child. From experience it has been proven that a child born after an already diagnosed Autistic child has a 90% chance of also being Autistic. The 2nd Autistic child is usually worse than the first. Please seek help at an early age as One ASD child is hard enough to handle at times, so more help is needed for 2. Good Luck

I dont know where LoveLea got her "proven" theory from, but the chances of having a second child with asd is documented as being a 2-10% chance.Depends where you look you get different opinions, but nothing even close to 90%! For more info you can try www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/faq_general.htm or www.etsu.edu/cpah/commdis/Au

p
or do what we did and just google the question. The only way you'll really know if your child has asd is to get an assessment done.I hope this is more helpful for you .

I get soo annoyed when someone like LoveLea writes a bunch of b.s. when she does not have a clue what she is saying. Gemmdenn is right on with her 2-10% chance of having a second child with autism.
Lovelea, let me know here you read this 'proven' nonsense so that I can look it up, or don't let me know and prove that you are full of it. Don't write advice to parents looking for hope when you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

jnnfrstark- you should take your 3rd child to a developemental pediatrician or neurologist to see if he is autistic.

By the way, I got my information on the genetics of autism from a Genetecist name Dr. Elaine Zackai at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She has over thirty years of experience

I think the best way to find out is to take him to the same dr. who diagnosed your first son. I work for a family who is in the same situation. They have a 5 year old autistic and a 3 year old who seemed to be copying his brother. They had to take him to the clinic twice, a year apart, to determine that he (the youngest) is possibly on spectrum with and unofficial diagnosis of PDD. Lovelea gave wrong info. I also know several other families in which the younger siblings of autistics are just fine.

alot of austisms can be genetic. it isnt bad realy its just hard at a young age. i have a form of autism and my childhood was hard, im now 19 and i have a very happy n not unusual life! there realy is nothing to worry about for most autisms. if they have learning disorders the best advice i can give is make sure that the childrens programs they watch are atleast half decent and not just aload of rubbish!
