My 3 week old has had a diaper rash now for about a week in a half. She has what looks like little red blisters next to her anus. I change her diaper ALL the time! But since I breastfeed she constantly poops or she'll fart and a tiny bit of poop will come out leaving that area always damp! Plus I use Balmex diaper rash cream. I've even tried some natural diaper rash cream like "Burt's Bees Baby Bee diaper ointment" and "Little Belle Baby Bottom Creme". I've tried using wet cotton balls instead of diaper wipes too.
I know her doctor will tell me to leave her diaper off but every time I do this she poops and pees and it gets all over her. Plus her doctor told me to not use wipes but take her to the sink to rinse her bottom with every diaper change, but that is a scary job too. She's pooped a few time's while i've tried this. And it's just not practical.
Please tell me if you guys know of anything better! I have cornstarch baby powder too, but I don't use that because it's hard to get off and I figured it'd just irratate the area more during the clean up.

Hi Farah! I feel your pain. The best product we've found is called "Triple Paste medicated ointment". It was on line and not cheap, but it WORKS. Here's the number: 800-533-skin or www.sumlab.com. I recommend splurging on the big tube. We got the small one to start, but now that I know it actually works, I'm going big! Hope this helps.

i use A&D ointment. it is for all kinds of skin irritations. it is for diaper rash, burns, heat rash, etc..... i swear by it. my son has only had diaper rash once and never has had it since i started using it and he is 9 months old. he got diaper rash really bad when he was only a few weeks old and i tried to use all kinds of things but none of them worked. i just put a little of this on him every diaper change and he doesn't even get red! one other good thing is i have had the same tube of ointment since he was 2 months old. so it is worth the money. i just recently got a coupon in the mail and it is for a free tube of it. you can find it at all drug stores and at places like wal-mart. hope this helps and your baby's bottom feels better!!

I hope so too and thanx for the replies. Today I tried again to leave her diaper off and as soon as I laid her down she pooped ... twice and then she got hungry so I had to lay beside her to breastfeed her and then she pee'd ... twice. She likes to wait though until I get her all cleaned up and then she repeats, lol. So we only went bottomless for about 40 minutes.
But I'm definately gonna give those creams a try!

my son had a daper rash while on medication that would not go away , the doc put him on a powder for a yeast infection because he had red bumps. Once the rash is gone try to keep vaseline, it keep anything from sticking to her, and really worked for my 3

I used A&D ointment (which I have tons of because my husband and I both get tattoos pretty frequently) when I babysat a friends newborn for a month (she went to a treatment center). It worked great. I plan to use that with the baby we're expecting.

I've heard the Beardux's Butt Paste was good...you can find it at Wal Mart or drug store. Not sure if I spelled right but hopefully you can get the jist of it...I too used and still use A & D ointment...works great...heals and protects much like vasiline but has other stuff in to ya know...Good Luck and just make sure you keep a good balnket underneath her during her "free" time. :-)

Thanx too you all, and so far what's working for my little on is using cornstarch baby powder. I did purchase A & D ointment though just in case. And as for free time, she pooped on my twice today when I was just changing her diaper. SHe really know's how to make that stuff fly! I guess that's just the price I pay for breastfeeding her, lol, loose poo!

I live in the UK and the only cream which I've found that works is called Metanium and has titanium dioxide in it. It works like a miracle!!!

I started using the A & D ointment and the blisters when away but now she has bumbs kinda all over down there and it's reddish colored. It's almost like it spread. Does diaper rash spread? I guess it is a rash but.....????

well it might take a few days for it to go away completely since she had it so bad. but if it made the blisters go away then it is getting better. just make sure that when you change her dry her little bottom off with a wash cloth or something before you put the ointment on. if you don't then the ointment will just seal in the moisture and it won't get better. good luck

Hi Farah,

My little angel (now 4mths old) also had a problem with diaper rash - especially if I have eat or drink Pineapple. I breastfeed him also. I was told by my doctor that creams with a high percentage of Zinc can heal and also prevent rashes and sores. I bought creams with high percentage of Zinc and now he has a beautiful soft and smooth bottom.
