My son is 6 months old and i breastfeed him. and he weights 16lbs. I was watching a 3 months old baby boy. And he weighted 20-21 lbs. I felt so bad because in my family we be-live that it is better, healthier, cutter, and so on. to have a chunk baby. Oh and that other baby was on formula. So for a long time i wanted to switch to formula. But it is looked down upon in my family to give your baby formula. So i didn't switch. But at times i still do. Yes i know that all baby grow differently. I was told that your baby will gain more weight by drinking mommies milk. But my son doesn't. What can i do to help my son. I also give him food like Gerber. He also likes the baby cookies that come in a Gerber box. So if anyone can help that would be great. like do i need to be eating different foods. Or what is it that i can do? Thank you.

is your doctor concerned about his weight? is he getting the right about of wet and poopy diapers? is he still nursing most of the time and only getting a little baby food? some babies are just smaller than others. if your doc. isn't worried about it then you shouldn't be either. as long as he is meeting his goals with his motor skills and is getting enough diapers in one day then he should be fine.

I wouldn't be concerned unless your doctor is, I am breastfeeding my 5 month old son and he only weighs 14 lbs. Everyone is always commenting on how skinny he is, my hubby and I are both tall and I guess he is just going to be a tall skinny guy. I too feel pressured to give him formula, I recently saw a study where they were studying chunky babies versus leaner babies and the chunkier babies tended to become overweight adult, try not to worry too much, I know that is hard because of the stigma that is attached to chunky babies.

I would check with my pediatrician.

my daughter is 2 and only weighs 26lbs and she has always been skinny no matter what she ate. She has always been under on the weigh scale but she is healthy and active and the Pediatrician says there is nothing I can do about it if she is getting all her nutrients and vitamins. i gave my daughter cereal at that age for breakfast and dinner with her milk and that helped a lil but she still is skinny not like sick skinny but she looks older than she is cause her body is proportioned differently. If your Doc isnt worried then i would worry.

My daughter is really petite. She always has been since the day she was born. She is currently 20 months still weighs less than 20 lbs. I breastfed her until she was 18 months. Your baby being skinny can also be due to heredity (like my daughter-both me and my husband are skinny) or it can be because your baby has a higher metabolism. Breastmilk is digested quicker and easier than formula. As long as your baby is hitting his milestones and the pediatrician says your son is fine, I really wouldn't worry about it.
