That's what the doctor said, thats just him, he's perfectly healthy & really strong, just lttle. He's 4 months & 10lbs 8oz, 23 inches long. He was 7lbs 4oz at birth. I know he's the doctor, I'm not, & I'm sure if there was anything I was or wasn't doing that was hendering his growth he would tell me, but I can't help but feel like I must be doing something wrong. He eats about 7 times a day for 7-15 minutes on each side. We've never been the best at nursing & have encountered our bumps in the road, but I do everything I can to try to get him to eat as long as he will. Anyone else out there that can relate? My husband keeps telling me that it's all good, but I feel like I'm not doing a good job because he's not round & pudgy & in a higher percentile. Nothing seems to put me at ease about it, not even the doctor telling me how healthy he is.

when my son was 4 weeks (hes now 6 weeks) he was 11 pounds 14 oz. but my sisters baby is 7 months and only weighs 15 pounds. i think that your baby is fine. you can always go to another pediatrician and get a different opinion. if hes not acting like hes starving and crying because hes not getting enough, im sure hes fine. i know you worry about how much hes getting..i couldnt handle not knowing how much my son was getting so i would pump and give it to him in a bottle just to get an idea. but he still eats on the boob. not all newborns are as big as mine...we have a big boy, but your little boy sounds perfectly normal to me. i hope your worries ease a bit.
if you get another opinion from a doctor dont tell him what your doc said because then that might contradict with what his opinion is. just say something like " is his weight fine for his age? because "friends" tell me hes small for 4 months." doctors tend to tell you what they think honestly if you dont bring up another doctor.

i dont know what circumcision had to do with anything. people are weird.

good luck though

i hear you, my baby girl is 7 mo old and 15.5 lbs. she is so little. anytime we go somewhere people always comment on how tiny she is, and they only think that she is 4 mo old. They ask if she was a premie, or is she sick? it gets really anoying. i feed her anytime she wants, and she eats real food very well. the doc says she is fine and healthy, i just wish people would mind their own business!! well at least think before speaking. lol yea right. i feel what you are going through, we just need to feed them lard so they can fit in with all the overwieght babies.!!!jk

Malachi's 13.5 mos & only wt. 19lbs...he's sooo tiny is the size his oldest sister was at 5 months! But...I"m sure he's fine...he's talking & playing catch, reading books with me...driving anything with wheels & some things he apparently thinks should have wheels...all I'd expect him to do at this age so am sure he's thriving...but...yes...has been stressful...wondering if he's ok or normal because he's sooo tiny...

The doctor should show you a chart graph they have when they weigh and measure him.

My children have always been in the top 1/3 of height and the lower 1/3 in weight.

Babies eat only as much as they need, no more, no less. If your Little One was not getting enough, there would be other signs, like dehydration (no wet diapers), etc.

Relax Raina, you and your Little One sounds like your doing fine.

Thanks all for the words of encouragement! I think one of the hardest things that comes with motherhood (at least for me) is that logic means little in the face of concern for my little one. My husband & I are gonna try to move him into his crib at night pretty soon here too, and it's the same logic versus emotion thing. I know it needs to be done, he sleeps better in there anyway, but I know he'll wake up at some point & cry becasue he wants to be held & it just kills me to hear him cry! Being a mom is just emotionally draining (especially when you have little sleep to funtion on)! But really, how amazing these little people are more than makes up for it! What a wild ride parenthood is!

Don't know where the circumcision thing comes in, my husband and son are both circumcised and have had no problems. Raikna as for the weight and height, don't worry. Babies grow in spurts. My son was almost off of the charts he was so long, not too chubby though but very solid and muscular (for a baby). One visit he came out very short and small. I was crushed but spoke with the nurse and she assured me he was fine. Turns out he had a growth spurt just after his appointment they just grow in spurts so it's hard to tell, he went from short to tall again in just a matter of a week or so. Don't worry, your little boy is fine, just wait, he'll take off one of these days.

i was doing research online and ran accross the studies on the side affects of circumcision and was blown away. i have never heard of it before, but it kinda made me a believer after reading it. it is very american procedure. If you would like me to give you the web page i found it on let me know. if i had a boy it would be a tough choice tho. i would be doing my research on it if i found out i was preg with a boy...

Mel, I would love to check out the website. I'm just curious because I haven't heard of anything bad with circumcision and my son is a big healthy little boy. I had him circumcised mostly for the hygeine aspect. You have to clean up in the flap and I wasn't comfortable doing that and I was worried about infections etc.

Your facts on uncircumsized boys are a little off. You don't need to have under the forskin cleaned until they are older as infants it can't be pulled back. Both my boys are uncircumsized but I don't think this has anything to do with the size of a baby.

Raina-

My son weighed 7 4oz at birth and was never a pudgy baby. He did eat but he never had that cute baby fat. I was always worried about him being to skinny. He was always healthy but the dctor where always he's "ok" . As long as YOU are eating a well balanced diet and taking a vitamin your milk should be all he needs. Try feeding for at least 15 mins on each side. He's 4 months why not start with rice cereal??? Ask the doc first though...

I didn't realize that as infants you couldn't pull the skin back and clean, but still as they get older, I would not be comfortable with that, personal choice I guess. I don't understand what the circumcision has to do with the bay's size either. My son has always been tall and in the middle of the weight range.
