So I'm a bit worried that I haven't gotten a period since I gave birth. I had Alex November 22nd and I got the depo shot to last me for 3 months. I breast fed for about 2-3 weeks but then stopped so that's not the reason that I haven't had one. I did have period type bleeding for a few weeks, so I'm not sure whether a period was mixed in there or if it was all just pregnancy aftermath. I don't know. I really think I should have had some kind of period last month even if it wasn't really regular. My husband and I had unprotected sex because I assumed that the birth control shot worked and now I'm a bit nervous that my body didn't take the shot.

wow...as you know all birth control can fail...are you having any signs of pregnancy?

I'm not really having any signs of pregnancy, but I never had morning sickness with Alex either. I know birth control isn't 100% effective, but I guess I just chose to overlook that fact. Lol. I mean, we want to have another within two years, so maybe it's just going to happen a lot sooner than we expected, but I'm not so sure my body is ready for that again! Ahhh.

Oh yeah, it will be a big shock to us both, but it's not like we didn't want anymore children. It'll just be a lot to take in a wrap my mind around at first. And I was just starting to fit into my skinny clothes again and I was going to start working out tonight again... hehe. =)

3 months today. It's his half half birthday. =) We even bought him a present - it's a jumpy chair.

yeah, geeze, back off! just kidding =) I'm super busy tonight and tomorrow night with work and other stuff, so if I haven't started by Saturday, then I'll run out to the store and pick something up. I guess I'm not in dire need of knowing if I don't feel the need to rush right out and buy a test, but I need to find out soon so I can start taking vitamins if I am. And if I'm not, then I should probably call the doctor and make sure everything is normal that I haven't had a period yet.

lots of women never get their period while they are on the shot. I was on it cor a couple of years and never had a cycle, until my body started rejecting it and then I bled all the time LOL

as long as your getting your shots every 12 weeks then I am sure that you are fine. depo doesn't allow the body to mature eggs and puts you in a medipausal state. It is one of the most effective birth control methods. I started it right after jeremiah was born and like I said I had the after baby bleeding, but then nothing for at least 2 years.

really? I never knew that. That's good to keep in mind. Hopefully that's the case with me.

yeah talk to your dr I am sure that everything is fine though. I know that either people get some breaktrhough spotting when it is time for their shot or they get nothing at all. If you do start to get break through bleeding then they can give you your shot 2 weeks sooner to prevent it. You shouldn't have a monthly cycle though like before. at most you should get some spotting once every three months about a week or so before your shot is due.

Here ia a bit of depo info for ya :)

You may have irregular periods or spotting for the first three to six months, but many women eventually stop menstruating altogether while they're on Depo-Provera. This means you're less likely to become anaemic, since you won't be losing all that iron in your menstrual blood. It also significantly reduces the risk that you'll develop endometriosis, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, or cancer of the uterus (endometrial cancer). On the other hand, you might also notice less pleasant side effects, such as weight gain, headaches, nausea, dizziness, acne, breast tenderness, decreased sex drive, nervousness, insomnia, or moodiness. Depo-Provera may cause temporary bone loss, but that's reversed once you stop the injections. Researchers are looking into whether long-term use can do permanent damage to your bones. Call your doctor if you develop a skin rash or itching, or if you have trouble breathing after a shot; you may be allergic to this form of progesterone but this is rare.

Hey Mel.

I was on Depo before I got pregnant with Kaden. I took it for about 2 years. I never had a single period in that time. That is one of the side effects from the depo. I stopped taking it 7 months before Kaden was concieved. Even after one shot, it can still take you up to a year to become pregnant, some women it takes more. That's why they don't recommend it if you are planning on having children in the near future.

Whoa!!! Hold up now. It could possibly take up to a year to get pregnant again after one shot?!? Now I'm not so sure that I want to risk that. I may just go back on the pill. Hmmm... that's something to think about. Thanks Randi.

I was on the shot before I got pregnant w/my 1st. I didn't have a period for 3 months straight and then when I was planning a big trip to Florida........BAM! I bled the whole 2 weeks I was there. Then, I stopped taking the shot 3 months later because I thought it took up to a year to get pregnant and a month later I was ALREADY pregnant....Also, most people gain weight on it and I lost 30lbs in 3 months. My doctor had to weigh me twice when I came back for my 2nd shot, lol.

I've known alot of people who have taken it and all the stories are inconclusive, lol.
