So here is the latest installment in the Brooke is sick saga.

We went to her pulminary specialist today. And I was really afraid her was just going to say there was nothing we can do because in a month she hasn't changed. She is really no better or worse. But he surprised me. He is taking her off her nebulizer because she fights during the whole thing so isn't getting a lot of the medicine anyway, and thinks the better way for her to get the medicine is through inhalers. So she is now on an albuterol inhaler and Qvar inhaler, the Qvar is similar to pulmicort. We did those tonight and it was so much eaiser and quicker than the nebulizer she fought much less, so hopefully they start to help. He talked about putting her on Singulair but because she no longer spoon feeds there would be no way to get it in her and he thought the benifits were minimal anyway, so we are holding off on that for now. He did say it is a sort of asthma, and that she is in the yellow zone which means it is not good but not horrible. We also get to do more lovely tests! YAY! lol not. The two test we are going to do now are Barrium Swallows. One is just a standard Barrium Swallow where they see if she is aspirating or refluxing anything by having her drink some goop and then watching an x-ray of it. And the other is where she drinks the goop and a speech therapist evaluates how different food textures affect her. I also have to put Thick It in her formula because he believes she is aspirating what she eats. Because one she won't spoon feed and two she gags when she drinks from fast flow nipples. These are of course all guestimates and we will know more after the tests. All in all I am happy with how the appointment went because he said to me that it is not normal for a child to cough and wheeze all the time. So that is progress as no one has taken us really seriously. Hopefully we find some answers soon. I know I am miserable with her being sick all the time.

Anyway as always keep us in your prayers, hopefully it is nothing and she will just kinda snap out of it, but since she has now been sick for almost 9 weeks, I am beginning to doubt that.

Thanks for the update on Brooke, I'm so sorry she has to go through this. I'm just happy you got a doctor that's doing something about it and will keep Brooke and family in my heart and prayers.

i am so glad he is taking you seriously and really trying to help brooke! i'm suprised that brooke is taking the inhaler so well! they put emma on and inhaler for her pulmicort and it took a couple of times for her to get the hang of it but now she is doing so well on it that they are going to switch her albuterol to and inhaler also (just waiting on some insurance nonsense to clear up) the inhalers are soooo much nicer! that only take a couple of minutes instead of 30min, take up less space, easier to travel with. they are just sooo much easier!

Well Brooke does her inhaler through a spacer called an Aerochamber. Basically it seals around her mouth and I puff the inhaler into the chamber that contains it until she breathes in 5-6 times.

wow that is sooo cool! emma has a chamber but she puts it in her mouth and then i puff the inhaler and she has to suck in at the same time. then hold her breath for 10 sec. and then breath out her nose.

My continued prayers.

Well i am glad that they made it easier for her to take her medicine...i would have a problem with wrestling gabs dopwn and forcing her to breathe a nebulizer like that. i'm glad theres a better way...i hope they get everything under control and she grows out of everything.

Cute pics on myspace btw!
