I'm 31 weeks and my obgyn is female but works with a group of Dr's. When it comes time to deliver I'm not sure how it works but I assume that each Dr takes a turn being "on call". I don't mind being delivered by a different Dr AS LONG AS it's a female. Hubby says I'll have to deal with it even if it's a male Dr but I'm afraid I will be too uncomfortable to do the task at hand. Anyone have any insight on this?

from what i know they call your doc and they deliver you unless they cant make it there or it's like 2 am then you definitely get the on call doc no matter what...but im not sure as this is my first

i dont think that you will care once you go into labor

I promise you - you won't care! It could be the paper boy as long as that baby is getting out of you!! But if you're concerned, just ask your doc at your next appointment what the protocal is.

lol i was like that in the beginning, ive always always had a female gyno and then my midwives were female, then i went to the hospital one night and it was a guy poking around down there, and now my doctor is a male, and i have no be honest i am wayy more comfortable with a guy than a girl for some reason, and i was always sooo against it. but this baby in me can be delivered by aliens for all i care as long as he comes out healthy, and just comes the hell out of me LOL

really when it comes down to it you wont care who delievers your baby-you willjust want someone too, most of the time the nurses do all the work, the doctor is there at the very end, and believe it or not they have seen it all.

Connie is right - it's all nurses anyways, and most of them are female. It'll be unlikely that you'd have a male nurse in the room. And even the nurses will switch a couples times from the time you arrive till you're pushing, unless you're amazingly fast. The doc will only be down there for a few minutes and it will be the few minutes that you WONT be paying attention, lol... they don't come in until the baby is literally coming out... maybe 20 minutes tops if you get stitches.

First I would bring it up at your next appointment just so you know what to expect.

Second, I think you should listen to a couple of first hand experiances by friends or people on the forum, so your not completely shoked.

Most of the time you are in labor you will be with your nurse which most likley will be a female. However, once it is time to push it is most likley that which ever Dr / Midwife that is on call will be there.

I had very little complications, for example the babies heartrate was up some so they called everyone in. When I say everyone I mean everyone. I had a female midwife, 3 female nurses, 2 interns( 1-male, 1 female), and then the nicu team was called in that means 2 more nurses and a dr which was male. Then at the last minute they decided to call in the male hospital dr. because they needed to use the vaccuum and midwives do not use the vaccuum. So in the end there were so many people in the room is should have just been put on the 5pm news and a male hospital dr. that I never met before delivered me.

The other postings are correct, once you go into labor you don't really care who delivers the baby......you just want the best care.

My doctor works the same way as yours. It's a group of 7 doctors and they are each on call only 1 day a week. Luckely all 7 doctors are female, and I cannot request a certin doctor, it's who ever is on call that day. I wouldn't worry, when you are in labor more then likely it won't both you if it's a male doctor..lol... When I was having my son, the delevery doc was female, but there were some delivary complacations so they got some specialist guy in, normally I would have felt a little uncomfortable, but being in labor he being a male was the least of my worries. At your next appt mention it and see what she says tho.

There are only 2 dr's in my group a lady and a man. the paratice belongs to the guy dr and I have known him since I was 16. The lady is real cool too. I have my first vag exam with the guy dr today and oddly enough I feel a bit funny about it. He has done exams before and delivered my son, but I have been seeing their woman CNP since after the birth of my son. Honestly though when the time comes you will not care who is there and what they see. Nothing will prevent the task at hand.
