Ok, have any of you guys, or are you planning on banking it? I have heard so much about it since becoming pregnant and at my last appointment my doctor asked me if I was planning on it. I was supposed to let them know when I pre registered at the hospital this week. I said no... now I'm thinking about it though. What do you guys think? Is it worth the money, or is it just a fad?

we're going through via cord. I think it is worth it for so many reasons it is unreal. Even the other day i was watching montell williams and this mans life was saved from cord blood he was dying of leukimia. It could save your babys life one day or yours or a famiy members. Right now they are working on getting the cure for heart disease which is one of the leading killers of women. So yes i think its worth every penny

Im not, i just dont think that its worth the money. It is VERY expensive and u will be paying a fee every month to maintain it in the cord blood bank until the child turns 18 or until u decide u dont want it anymore. But if u have a genetic disease that runs in your family then i would say u should try it out.

140 a year is not that expensive if it saves your childs life in my opinion and for though who cant afford the one time 1900 dollars they have really good payment plans but its up to you to decide read the information they send it to you for free and will answer any questions on the phone but if you have a family history of any of these or know a family member that does i woud for sure do it. If not you can at least donate it if you decide not to.

it has a 85 percent chance of matching your child if it fails they will donate 25,000 for the next operation if needed a 50 percent chance of curing you or your husband or a sibling of your childs and a 25percent for the grandparents as of right now but every year new stuff is coming at a fast speed and they are hoping to be able to multipy the cord blood to be used for the whole famiy with even better percentages. many operations have been sucessfu and in europe they have been doing this and are all for it but here in america the drug companys don't want other cures especially ones that are natural.

you can go check it out @ www.viacord.com i have known about this for a while but i did a lot of research before deciding and i cant believe that we are not doing more to get people to do this. I mean they will test on animals and mice for cures but when it comes to something that is natural it has just been thrown away for years. Now that is proven to work some people still would rather just ignore it and to me that doesn't make sense. i understand if people dont know about it or have the money but at least they could donate it to help save someone elses like.

Im thinking of doing chord blood since this might be my last pregnancy. I thought about it with my first son but the doctor said that the odds of him actually using it is very slim and It cost like $4000 back then so I didnt do it. I didnt do it for my second child either but now that they actually have more uses for it, then Ive decided to do it. My friend paid about $1500-1800 and she pays somethin around $150/yr for storage fees. You never know, it might come in handy one day.

Both my dr. and my childbirth instructor said in so many words that it's a rip off....the chances that the blood will ever be used is slim to none. I mean if I wanted to, it wouldn't be a problem. I plan on donating mine so it doesn't just sit in a freezer and never be used; it can go for someone who really needs it. I personally feel that it's just another marketing scheme and if you look at the statistics, I think you'd agree. I would ask your dr. about donating the cord blood..it's a wonderful gift to give.

TOTAL rip off and waste of money. According to statistics there is only a 2% chance that your child or a family member would use the cord blood. Each year the cord banks make millions of dollars from parents who think that this blood will actually be used in the future. I researched this topic for a few years now and it is good if u have money to burn.

they don''t hide the fact that if you don't have genetic diseases that run in the family you might not need to use it but i didn't think i had anything that was bad in my family until recently my mom found out she had heart disease and cord blood could one day come in handy. i just couldn't forgive myself if something happen to my child or someone i loved and i could have done something to help. i don't know thats just me.

If I had the money to do it I think I would. Just for the "what if" factor. But I am not going to worry myself about it or take a 2nd job just to do it---
