A MALE friend of Mark's was telling me 'Women forget the pain of childbirth, that's how they're ok to go on and have more children'. I could have slapped him.

I don't forget the agony at all! It was 11 hours of brutal torture without pain relief (I refuse to classify gas and air as pain relief cause it did nothing for me) And I'll never forget the agony I was in.

To women who've been through labour, what do you think? Have you forgotten?

With Joey my labour started at 10am, and my waters were broken at 5pm, when I was 2cm dilated. Between 5pm and 8pm I dilated 8cm! Oach! And then it took me around an hour to push him out. And all with just gas and air for relief. I'll never never forget it.

But like you M25, I'd do it again. I think women are just a lot braver and stronger than men when it comes to pain. I mean we put up with pain every month with painful menstrual cramps, pregnancy is extremely uncomfortable and at times painful, and labour is the most pain a person can be in without dying. And yet we do it in our millions. Here's to women!

ok, thanks for scaring the pants off me!

This is the only thing I am scared of, the delivery....

I don't know any woman I've spoken to that can say they've "fogot the pain of childbirth". I certainly haven't. I'm trying not to think about it now that I'm pregnant again. (So thanks a lot for bringing it up! j/k) As far as I'm concerned, contractions are very, very, very bad, but, nothing compares to the pain of pushing. I think it's 10 X worse than that. But, that's just me. I too just had the gas, which did nothing except help me focus on my breathing instead of breaking down and whimpering, that and my mom! My husband looked as miserable as I felt, seeing me in pain. But...that all said I'm obviously willing to do it again. And I don't want an epi. again. I just hope the 2nd one decides to come out quicker, with less pushing!

Sorry AimeeLynn!

lol. You can't expect to come to a Pregnancy and Babies forum without hearing the truth about childbirth. I only wish people had been more honest with me about it; I think I'll be better prepared for the next baby.

Lindsay, what do you mean you don't want an epi again? I thought you said you only had gas and air with your first baby?

Lindsay, yeah I totally agree. The pushing is the worst part, FAR worse than the actual labour.

did any of you all sweel down there after giving birth?????

With my first I swelled up huge I swear to goodness my suzi looked like a freaking hotdog bun and the middle part looked like a hot dog lying in the bun....i know this is tmi but anyway the whole thing was swollen and see through........my dr. said he'd never seen swelling that bad befor eand tried to make me stay longer but I wasn't having any of that I went home. But the grossest part was when i walked my suzi/ lips whatever you girls wanna call it would sway like swing back and fourth, thats how swollen it got. It's all normal now thank god and never swelled like that again just the minor normal swelling. But did any of you have this same prob.?

swell*

I did swell up lots. I tore during delivery, and the midwife did a bad job putting stitches in. (They tore off the next day) and that's when I began to swell up. The next few weeks after that were torture. I could hardly walk for the pain, and got infected twice. Not nice!

UGH I tore on the inside w/ both my last 2, and got a small tear in my urethra w/ Emilee as well. Everytime I had to pee omg at the burn

I know I know, I can't hide from delivery forever, but every new mother I talk to just tell me to get an epidural and I will be fine, so I have been sticking to that to calm myself down when I get all scared about giving birth...

I didn't get an epi, and I managed just fine. I decided I only wanted to use Gas and Air, and I did it just fine. I'm very proud that I went through it all with no pain relief.

But by all means, if you want an epi, if that will make you feel more confident, by all means, go for it. The end result is a healthy baby; that's what you're looking for.

Focus on meeting your little baby! Regardless of the pain I was in, I'll still say it was the best day of my life in many ways. :)

Oh yeah! I had to lean right forward when I peed so as not to pee over the open wound. I'll never forget looking between my legs and seeing the flesh hanging there after the stitches had burst open. Gross!

I was so scared I was trying not to cry.. i felt so bad for her and for me when I'm at that point! yikes!!!

lol I remember when i was in labor w/ my first baby when we first got to the hospital, to try and gett hings going good they had us walk the halls for a while, and I was peeking at the babies in the nursery.....i had noooo idea i was looking in the nicu........anyway.....i remember thinking omg they're so small this is not going to be bad at all, i can do this.........but then a few paces ahead was another window......yep you guessed it, healthy normal sized babies.....the size difference blew my mind i didn't say a word....i just started crying, lol!!!!!!

hmmm, well, now I don't want to be pregnant anymore! lol maybe the c-section route sounds a bit less painful...ouch ouch ouch is all I can say...it hurts down there thinking about what you guys are talking about!

Name: christiansmommy | Date: Mar 13th, 2008 6:16 PM
nope 38 hours of labor with christian.
with chloe-i was induced, so within 2 hours of getting that medicine on my cervix and the other stuff, she came flying out! i dilated from 1 cm to 10 in less than 20 minutes.

but with christian, it was pure terror! i will never forget that pain! not only that, b/c he was so large (9 lbs.), i clearly remember this burning ring of fire down there. i thought my cookie-bunny was gonna explode! he was freaking huge! i didn't know my cookie could stretch that big! lol.

nope, i've tried......and i can't forget that pain with christian 5 years ago.

jill, sorry I guess I worded that wrong. what I meant was I didn't have an epi. with my first and even though it was painful, I still would opt not to have an epi.

Name: LindsayK | Date: Mar 13th, 2008 6:23 PM
Yes, but if you had a c-sec Aimmee, you have a longer recovery time and more pain afterwards :) I'm so afraid of ever having to have a c-sec. I don't like the idea of surgery.

i havent forgotten, but ovb child birth isnt that bad since people continue to have children.

Name: AimeeLynne | Date: Mar 13th, 2008 6:54 PM
Hey LindsayK from Guelph, not from Lindsay ;) I have read about c-section and I am going to try and avoid one as much as possible, if possible...just, well hearing these stories makes me a little queasy. I know that anything is possible, and I am just hoping my delivery will be the easiest, quickest, less painful delivery EVER! haha A girl can dream!
