BEFORE I BEGIN, I WANT TO UPDATE EVERYONE WITH MY STATUS. I HAD MY 10 WEEK APPT. TODAY AND EVERYTHING IS FINE STILL. THE BABY ACTUALLY TRIPLED IN SIZE! I HAVE ANOTHER PICTURE TOO. I CAN EVEN SEE THE ARMS AND LEGS. THE HEART IS BEATING FINE TOO. CHRISTIAN GOT TO SEE IT ON THE SONOGRAM MONITOR. HE WAS VERY EXCITED, ESP. WHEN MY DOC. HANDED HIM THE PICTURE. I AM STILL SICK AS A DOG. SO, ANYWAY, EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT WITH MY PREGNANCY.

ON A SADER NOTE, AFTER THE APPT., I TOOK CHRISTIAN TO SEE HIS OLD NANA THAT USED TO KEEP HIM SINCE HE WAS ABOUT 2. (SHE DOESN'T KEEP HIM ANYMORE SINCE HE IS NOW IN PRESCHOOL) SO, WE ARE ALL EXCITED AND CHRISTIAN HAS THE SONOGRAM PIC. IN HIS HAND TO SHOW HER. WHEN WE PULL UP, THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE OUTSIDE AND ON THE PORCH AND EVERYTHING. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. WE GO INSIDE AND I SEE LOTS OF PEOPLE I KNOW, EXCEPT I WAS EXPECTING TO SEE JUST LITTLE KIDS, B/C SHE HAS A HOME DAYCARE. BUT, I SAW LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE. I GOT A LITTLE SCARED THEN. SO, FINALLY, I SEE NANA. AND I ASK WHATS GOING ON? SHE SAYS HER GRANDDAUGHTER PASSED TODAY FROM MENINGITIS! I WAS AT A LOST FOR WORDS! I KNEW HER. SHE WAS ABOUT 19 OR 20 YRS. OLD AND SHE ALWAYS INVITED ME TO HER LITTLE SON'S BDAY PARTIES. HE IS NOW 3. THIS GIRL HAS ONLY BEEN OUT OF HIGHSCHOOL FOR LIKE A YEAR OR TWO. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT SHE SAID! I STILL DON'T. I AM VERY UPSET. AND SO WERE THEY. I ASKED WHERE THE GIRLS (NAYONI) MOTHER WAS (MARIA), WHICH IS NANA'S DAUGHTER AND NANA SAID SHE WAS IN THE BACK LAYING DOWN. NOW, THAT LITTLE 3 YR. OLD BOY HAS NO MOTHER. I JUST HUGGED NANA AND TOLD HER HOW SORRY I WAS. I AM STILL SITTING HERE IN SHOCK. ESP. B/C I KNEW HER AND OUR KIDS PLAYED TOGETHER. SO I CAME HOME AND DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE NET ABOUT MENINGITIS. IT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME! IT IS VERY CONTAGIOUS. IT AFFECTS THE LINING THAT COVERS THE BRAIN AND THE SPINAL CORD.

WELL, WITH THAT SAID, I AM GOING TO SEND SOME NICE FLOWERS EITHER TO THE HOUSE OR TO THE FUNERAL, WHENEVER THAT IS.

MY QUESTION IS: IS IT WISE FOR ME, AS A PREGNANT WOMAN, TO GO TO THIS FUNERAL AND BE AROUND HER CLOSE FAMILY SINCE I'M SURE THEY WERE ALL AROUND HER WHEN SHE WAS SICK? MY HUSBAND DOES NOT WANT ME TO GO. SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE TO GET TESTED TOO? ESP. HER SON AND HER MOM AND GRANDMOTHER? THEY WERE ALL THE CLOSEST TO HER. I WILL ALSO CALL BACK TO MY DOC. TOMORROW AND ASK THEM. THEY WILL PROBABLY SAY I'M HIGH RISK AND TO STAY AWAY.

GOD, I WANT TO CRY SO BAD NOW. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. I FEEL SO AWFUL. SUCH A YOUNG GIRL, A MOTHER, A YOUNG DAUGHTER. SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET TO START A FUTURE OR GO TO COLLEGE. I KNOW YOU ALL DON'T KNOW NANA OR HER FAMILY, BUT NANA MEANS ALOT TO ME AND CHRISTIAN. A LOT! PLEASE KEEP HER IN YOUR PRAYERS.

I'm sorry for your nana's loss. I had bacterial meningitis when I was 6 months old. I have a 40% hearing loss as a result. But considering what meningitis is capable of, I consider myself more than lucky. Being that I was just an infant, I was constantly around somone. Even though meningitis is contagious, no one else got sick. If you want to go, then go. If you doctor advises you not to, then stay away.

wow, bacterial meningitis is the form that kills, right? i am very happy that you came through ok. do you have to wear a hearing aid? can i ask you this? how come it killed her? it just seems like an infant would die from it easier than a healthy 20 yr. old. i am just a little confused.

i did have to wear a hearing aid when i entered kindergarten. at that time i was almost completely deaf. i learned sign language and how to lip read in kindergarten. when i was 6 i had two surgeries to remove the built up scar tissue in my ear canal. they couldn't remove all of it which is why i have only 60% of my hearing back. both forms can kill. but with meningitis there's sometimes no symptoms. the only symptom i had was that i went the whole day without smiling (my mom said i was the smiliest baby she ever knew) so she told my dad to take me to the hospital. i think if you have symptoms, the symptoms are a bruise like rash and a fever. she probably didn't have any symptoms, or didn't get to the hospital in time. im not sure.

Wow Tasha! That is terrible, I hate to hear about any young person passing, breaks my heart! I am not sure if you should go or not... it probably would be OK to go but I would probably be like your husband though and not want to chance it! Ask your doctor and get his opinon, "doctor knows best"... hehe! But don't not go if you think you will regret not going...... Ok I have no answer... I am having a disagreement with myself in this reply. :-)

I used to work in a daycare. There was a little girl there who had survived Meningitis. She had a hearing aid implanted in her head, it was some kind of magnet thing. I am pretty sure she had more than 40% hearing loss because without the implant turned on she wouldn't even turn her head when you said her name. She also was infected with meningitis at around 6 months old. She was a little bit behind mentally, but that was only because of being sick.

I had meningitis, obviously not the bad one, but my brother and i both had it, i got it from him and he got it from being out in the rain at football practice and something getting into a cut of his. its weird. anyways they could have been tested, but it required a spinal tap on my brother and i to check ur spinal fluid and they dont just do it for the hell of it, its a very risky procedure especially b.c fluid in your spine does not reproduce. and the infant may not have been directly exposed so hopefully they tested anyways though, but she had it, probably just thought the migraines, dizziness, bruising, sweating, stuff of that sort was a cold or something considering the time of the year. my brother and i had it for almost a week before being taken to the hospital to find out that the severe screaming migraines and neckpain and back pains we had were indeed meningitis.

Tasha I would definately talk to you doctor and see what he/she says. It will probably be okay to go but you never can be to careful.
