I went in to the docotor today for my first appointment and saw the doctor's assistant (the doc was in surgery all day - and is actually going to see me this evening since it's important). Anyhow, my "48 hour blood check" to see if my hormones double every two days came back. It was 255 on Friday - and almost 900 on Sunday!!! So not only did it double, it quadrupled. The assistant said that is usually the earliest sign of twins, but i'll have to wait until the amniotic sac(s) are more visible (they couldn't see mine last week). Did anyhow else have this happen and not have twins? Or better yet have it happen and DID have twins?

Yeah, I have to wait until August to see whether or not I am carring twins because of being on clomid. I keep telling myself that I am only carring one but at the same time I can't seem to shake the fact that I also seem to be the one who has everything the doctor mentions about a medication ends up happening to me. So I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Have you done the "48 hour test" Ethansmom?

I just had a blood test Friday the results were 75, then I had a test again on Monday it was 265. I am getting another on Friday, maybe you are just really pregnant.
Twins run in both my family and my husbands, I will let you know what my doc says.

I only have one set (my dad's cousins) in my family - but my husband was adopted, so we don't know about his side. I also took clomid - so that upped my chances.

my girlfriends husband is a twin and her dr said it's the womans side that carries the twin "gene". She was afraid of having twins. luckily they didn't run in her family. at my first appt my dr said i was measuring 10 weeks and i shouldve been 6. he thought i was having twins but he said it could be cuz it was my 4th baby. I now have just one 4 mo old girl, and i wish she was a twin cuz she's too darn cute and adorable! Good luck!

is it always true that it's the woman's side that carries the twin gene? I don't think I have that in my gene but I remember my sister's first pregnancy she was carrying twins, which her husband has the gene- even triplets! it's too bad though she had an abortion.. :(

No I didn't have the "48 hour test" done. I they might have done this because of you being high risk. They just wanted to check to see if everything was progressing where it should. I did have a progesterine test done to make sure my levels where okay since I was on clomid, but they only did this once.

Twins don't run on either side of our family, but being on fetility drugs adn under 35 my chances of having twins are higher. But because I am not high risk and have not had any issue so far with my pregnancy I have not had a single ultrasound or any addition blood work done. I only really wanted one so I will be happy if it only turns out to be one. But I will also be happy if it's two.

You should ask the doctor about it Ethansmom - maybe he'll do one for you if you want to know. It's not a for sure sign, but it will give you an idea if there is a possibility or not.

I only have to wait for another month before I can go in to have my first ultrasound so I think I can wait. I'll be 20 wks been then so I will also be able to find out the gender. I'm not a needle person so I try to avoid it whenever possible. Sort of like my doctor had said something about possibly having the baby this year, that he wasn't sure whether we had talked about it. My husband of course had mentioned it for tax reasons. Well in order for this to happen I would need to have Amniocentesis. There is no way that I am going to have this done unless it needs to be done. I know exactly what that needle looks like and I've heard that it hurts. So I'll wait, and go in for blood work when they want me to.
