I was just wondering...Docs say once a baby turns one they can have milk. Did you gradually switch over? Did you still feed formula with milk 'til a certain age? I am wondering if Wyatt will get enuff nutrients from the food he eats with only milk as his drink (he doesn't get fruit juice - only water if he doesn't want formula) or if I should keep him on formula also, until his eating patterns are a little more solidified (ie he only eats three meals a day right now with no snacks and his meals are only about 3-6 oz of food at each meal). Thanks for all your input.

my daughter JUST turned one on the 27th. I have now started giving her whole milk. I make her bottles half formula and half whole milk. She's also eating more solids now too. I just give her whatever we're eating, but just cut up into little bite size pieces, and it's been going awesome. She LOVES chicken nuggets, and fish the most. the other day I made burgers and i just cut up a patty into little pieces and she ate it no problem. then she eats avocado, cheese, mangos, bananas, grated apple, yogurt, corn, carrot, peas. what I normally do is have everything all cut up in the fridge and bring out a little at a time so not to spoil it, and then she just picks away at it all day whenever she feels like it. plus a supply of cheerios of course!! lol...she's gotta have her cheerios! :-) anyways...it's worked well for me so far. :-)

i should also say, on top of her snacking she also has her three meals a day where she sits in her highchair and i feed her. she still has her oatmeal in the mornings, and then lunch and dinner.

I was wondering about that too. Sophie turns 1 in about 2 weeks and I'm really looking forward to not buying formula any more! It's so damn expensive! But...she eats very little solid food. She's really good about trying foods, but she only eats a couple little bites. I sit her in the high chair for the three main meals, and I offer her snacks during the day - especially if we're out shopping. She loves Wheat Thins crackers! But she still drinks about 32 ounces of formula a day. I'm hoping that she'll start to eat more solid foods. I don't give her any baby food or cereal anymore, she just has what we're having. I've also heard that when you switch to milk, it's also a good time to start taking away the bottles - saving the nighttime bottle as the last one to go. Aye - it's always something new to learn!

i try once in a while to give her the milk in a sippy cup, but she just won't do it yet!!! lol....but it's been so nice to not go through so much formula. she used to have 32oz a day too, but now that i'm mixing it half and half she only getting half the formula now.....my container is lasting so much longer now!! lol....i love it. :-)

Oh - that's so good! How are you feeling?? It's getting really hard to carry Sophie around. I can't wait until she walks on her own. She'll only walk if I hold her hand, which is better than when I had to hold both of her hands!! Is Anika walking yet?

i feeling ok....the only i hate still is walk up the stairs with her. Lately I've been getting her to climb up the stairs on her own, with me standing right behind her of course.

she walks when I hold on to one of her hands and walk side by side with her, and for the last week she been walking on her own a little here and there. she'll walk on her own for like 5 feet then realize there's nothing to hold onto and she'll stop and sit down!!! ha ah ha!!! but i know by the time the new baby is here, she's going to be rippin' around!!! i'm scared!! LOL....everyday she walks a little more and more.....YIKES!!!

I think we're in for it!!!! lol

ha ha ha!!! she can motor up them, but doesn't understand yet how to get down them. i try to show her, but she just wants to go back up and never down!!! oh well...it'll come.....it's good for them to learn them though, cause if they go somewhere where there is stairs, they'll know what to do and be safe. not knowing how to climbs stairs could be dangerous if you think about it...

Thanks girls and lol missmara, you were the one I was going to start the subject with...I mean I was going to say: Question for missmara and anyone else with a baby about 1 years old. Hehe I knew Sophie was a little ahead of Wyatt so I thought I would ask you first :) Anyway, I guess I will try half and half to start then move on. Wyatt is taking water from the sippy cup so I think I will try the milk in there tomorrow. As for solids...well we are a little behind on that scale. He still eats baby foods mostly, with some avacados, cheese, puffs, pears etc. I think I will try some yogurt too. He still gags a little on some solids so we are taking it slow. He started walking two days ago and was really going for it today...my sanity has ended, alas I am excited nonetheless. Take girls and thanks again.

i started off with one quater milk and 3 quaters formula.. then went half-half.. Then went one quater formula three quaters milk.. then finally all milk.. I think there was a few times when I would go half milk half water.. or a quater water, 3 quaters milk as well...

if you are really worried about it i know that enfamil make a transition formula for babies over one. that would help add the extra nutrients,

I don't have a baby over a year yet, but I watched quite a few go through this transition when I worked at the daycare. 1/2 formula, 1/2 milk will work to transition them to milk, and as long as they're eating fairly well on table foods, you should be fine for nutrients. If you're worried, double check with your doctor and (s)he might suggest giving your baby a multi-vitamin to make sure they're getting everything they need

The pediatrician had me give Enfamil Polyvisol vitamin drops to my son when he transitioned from formula to milk. That way he/she still gets the nutrients they need. They are in the vitamin section and come with or without iron. Unless the doctor tells you your child needs extra iron, use the one without because the one with iron will cause constipation. Once he/she turns two you can start using chewable viatmins if you want. We use the my first flintstone vitamins now and he's 3.
