Ok so this is my 4th pregnancy. I have never had any complications with my births or pregnancies and I was looking for a different experience because I'm not sure I will have any more. I have never actually enjoyed my births in my hospital environment and I actually never like any of my Dr's either, they made me feel like I was just another number. I also hate hate needles and how they are constantly sucking blood out of you.
I have used an epidural everytime but with my son I got to 6 centimeters and 95% effaced before they convinced me I should have an epidural not to mention I felt the pain of delivering my son. I was thinking of a midwife and maybe a birthing center. I've always always wanted to do it. What are you experiences? Does anyone have any advice for me?
Not to mention how does natural child birth feel?

Although I gave birth in a hospital, I gave birth to Joey naturally with no meds. How does it feel? lol. Agony of course, but I'm so glad I did it without meds and if I have another baby, I'd give birth to that baby without meds too.

Yeah I think I'm gonna give it a go. I want a different experience and the feeling of being super proud of myself that I did it without meds. Thanx for letting me know. I will probably do it in a hospital just in case anything goes wrong but still naturally.

i had brooke in a hospital however our hospitals l and d wing is a birthing center, so it wasn't overly hospital like. but i don't know for sure cause i had a c-section lol...but i definitely think you should find a dr or midwife that you are extremely comfortable with. i love mine!!!

I had both my kids in the hospital, but drug free. I did use the gas with both though. Natural child birth is really, really painfull, but obviously doable. For me, pushing was the worst with both kids. It's a real burning sensation. Gabbie's delivery in '06 started with me having mild contractions following a membrane sweep on a Friday morning. They lasted for two days and on Sunday at noon they broke my water. Then the real contractions started. They kept me upright for most of the labour in a rocking chair. Her heartrate kept dipping so they attached an internal monitor to her scalp (the scabs took months to heal, I felt so bad for her, and she still has scars in her hair). She wasn't coming out when I was pushing so they used the vaccuum, for a long time. She was born at 5:11pm that night. They whisked her away right away to check her out and after a few minutes she was fine. And a healthy 7lbs. 6oz. For Declan's delivery 6 weeks ago, I had a membrane sweep done again, it was on a Tuesday morning. I had a few mild contractions off an on on Wednesday. Thursday at 3:00am I woke up with a more intense contraction. I had a couple more and got up at 4:30am and had a shower. They became regular about 5min. apart then. From 5-6am they were 2 min apart and I was starting to panic about making it to the hospital on time. We got there at 6:30am and Declan was born at 9:18am after more than an hour of unassisted pushing this time. He weighed 9lbs. 9.5oz. Something I found very helpful this time during contractions was to stand and brace my hands on a table and do hula hoop movements. I've heard it also helps baby drop.

Oh, and when I got to the hospital with Declan I was already 8cm, and they broke my water for me again.

Lindsay, I absolutely agree about the pushing. I gave birth naturally without meds as well (just gas and air) and the pushed was just awful. I pushed my 8lb 3oz son out with the strength of sheer panic! But funnily enough, I'd do it again. lol. Weird that.

When I gave birth though, I LONGED to stand up, but they wouldn't let me, as they had a monitor strapped round my belly to monitor Joey's heartbeat throughout my entire labour and made me lie down for the whole thing. Hopefully next time they won't make me wear the monitor. There was no need, as I'd had a healthy pregnancy and uncomplicated birth.

Oh I know what you mean. I was only able to do the standing thing at home. I didn't want to lay down once I got to the hospital but they made me so I could be checked. And since I was 8cm, it was pretty much go time and they made me stay there.

I forgot to mention the coolest part of my second delivery. Once Declan's head was partly out, they asked me if I wanted to feel it! It was so neat, but gross at the same time. It didn't feel like a head, that's for sure. His delivery was also a lot more layed back than my daughter's was. They put him on my chest right away and hubby got to cut the cord this time. All through the labour they kept saying 'what a happy baby' b/c his heart rate stayed great throughout. It was less stressful than my first delivery in that way.

Holy cramolee!!!!! You guys pushed out some big babies with no meds, You are definatly some strong women. Props to both of you. I seriously want to do it without meds but my hubby doesn't think I will be able to. That makes me want to do it that much more (I'll show him LOL) I already know there is massive pain involved but I truly think I can do it. Watch this one be my biggest baby because I am deciding to do it without pain meds hahaha. I'll have like a 9lb baby. My biggest was 7lbs 6 oz and 21 in. like your first LindsayK . Thank you guys for your experience if there is anymore out there or anyone considering doing what I'm gonna do let me know.
