Well like most people on here I'm pregnant 19 weeks along. Around this time I usually start making trips to the tanning salon. I know now though that I'm not suppose to. I was wondering if anyones ever gone and just did their legs or just give me save advice. It really is my legs that I'd like to tan anyway so....

You should ask your doctor about tanning your legs. Or maybe think about the spray on tanning some salons have. Nowadays, those kinds of tans can make you look just as good really fast. Plus, it's better for you and your precious skin. I mean, like it or not, if you keep it up you'll have that orange peel, dry skin in just a few years. To me, no temporary tan is worth giving up your soft, healthy young skin.

Yeah I guess, I'm not one of those tanaholics though. I just go until I feel comfortable wearing shorts and baring my legs. And I've never had an orange look. It's always looked natural. But yes I know that it's not the healthiest thing to do. Nothing is anymore : (

Hey, I wasn't trying to criticize, really. Just thought you might want to give the shower tan a whirl. I did it before my wedding and had really good results. Of course, you should also ask you doctor about using to leg tanner. I don't see how it would hurt your baby if it's not directly on your abdomen or if your body temperature doesn't become too elevated.

Oh no, you didn't affend me or make me mad at all! And I have given that new spray tan a thought. How long does that last?
And did it look streaky at all?

My parents owned a tanning salon at one time and I learned a lot from them. Even if you aren't putting the radiation right on to your belly, it's still not safe. Try a sunless tanning lotion (NOT the pills) instead this year.

That's good to know! I was curious if it was okay just to do your legs. But Radiation???? I'm confused. I thought it was Ultra Violet Rays?

I just read somewhere about Ultra Violet Radiation.....; ) sorry to question you. What can I say I'm a dork ; )

doesnt rays usually stand for radiation? Or am I the dork? lol

Ultra Violet...yup. And it's not good for the baby if it's anywhere on your body. I wouldn't risk just trying your legs. They say tanning is a big no no when you're preggo so I'd say don't risk it. The other ladies have great suggestions for other ways you could go. Best of luck!

When I was pregnant for my first baby I remember I was at a cookout and got a minor sunburn on my legs. well when I went in for my next doctors appointment I thought my doctor was going to have a heart attack when he saw my legs. He just went on and on how bad being in the sun while pregnant was. Needless to say after that I never sat in the sun again. It was all shade in the summer for me lol. I am assuming that he would say the same thing about tanning machines. Its not worth the risk to my baby to get those tan legs. Thankfully I dont have to worry about it this time around because I am due in the begining of May.

Why would any pregnant woman even think about asking for advice on this topic? First it's the vibrator, now tanning. It is bad enough that tanning causes cancer, so why would you even THINK about doing something like that? I hate when pregnant women take those type of risks.

Unbelievable......

First of all I don't appreciate the "dumb females" remark. I was just asking advice if it were safe or not. I actually ended up researching it myself. It's not even something I've done yet or plan on doing now. And just because I ask a question doesn't mean you should reply with a snatchy remark. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't consume caffeine of any form, or drink soda's period for that matter, no type of processed meat, try to stay away from sweets,....and anything else that I've read could be harmful. I would love to get my hair highlighted now that summers on the way, but I'm not gonna do that either. And so far because of all my precautions I'm doing great and feel great, I'm 5 months pregnant and only gained about 6 lbs. There's nothing wrong with asking a question, and In my opinion asking if I can tan my legs alone isn't that darn bad. THANK YOU!!

I Hate To Be Rude To You All But You Are All Wrong.
I Am 18 1/2 weeks pregnant Not Only have i Talked To My Doctor But To 5 others As Well. All From Diffrent offices, I Have Spent Days Emailing Specialists And People That Have tested This Theory, Every One Said The Same Thing Except 1 DR. That Tanning Had a CHANCE Of Causing Cancer So It Wasnt Safe For You Or Your Baby BUT It Does No Harm To Your baby if You Dont Get The Cancer, they All Suggested No One Tans Since The Risk of cancer Excists But The Warning Is No Higher When Pregnant. The uterus Is FULL Of Fluids When you Are Pregnant Thats Why You Gain 20-40 Pounds And The baby Only Ways 7!! NONE Of The Ultra Violate Rays Reach The baby. I Know Lots of You may Think This Is NOT true, But Believe me I have Done My reaserch. Doctors May Suggest not Tanning But Why Would They? They Dont Even Like It When Your Not Pregnant, Dont Be Silly On This Topic, Its OK to Tan!!

Your not being rude Honour, looks like you did your research! My Dr. told me no because the tanning beds get really warm and they don't want you to raise your core body temp too much. (same with hot tubs) I do know some pregnant girls that got the okay from their Dr.'s so it must just depend on who you ask. I just went out a little more and did it naturally that summer.

oh, yesterday i happened to be watching that show on tlc about pregnant models.... forget what its called. and i will tell you, the woman on there had spent some time in the tanning bed! she looked like she was fresh out of the microwave and 9 months prego. she was from new jersey and i doubt theres enough sun there to get that tan! (she was natural blonde). she was pretty though.
i cant stand that woman that runs the modeling business on that show. she is sooo fake. always "oh, you are sooooo cuuuute, you are soooooo beautiful.... oooooh, she is soooo gorgeous!" in that annoying tone of voice that fake people get... but i bet shes a bitch in real life. she aggravates me, but i think its cause she reminds me of someone i know whos like that. do you guys know which show im talking about?
