I want to get something for my son to give him in the hosptial from the baby after he's born, but I'm having trouble deciding what I should get. Has anyone else done this and have any ideas?

Any other suggestions for making the transition from only child to big brother easier on him? He says he's excited to have "his baby" and can't wait, but I also know he may have trouble once the baby is actually here so any advice would be wonderful. Thank you girls! :-)

I got mine the first time around a book about a new baby, and her own doll...you have a boy and it's totaly ok to get a boy a doll...they grow outta it....but they love to change diapers and feed they're babies to....

I got our infant car seat out the other day to wash the seat cover and clean the base and stuff since it's been sitting so long and Kadin got out his teddy bear and held it like a baby and pretended it was his brother and he put him in the carseat and read stories to the teddy and sang to him and stuff, it was pretty cute! :-) I thought about getting him a doll to teach him, but he never was interested, just wanted to be around his nephew who just turned 1 and use his teddy bears. I am at a loss for what to get him and I don't really want to get a toy, maybe a big brother shirt and/or book or something. I just don't know. LOL

lol 04nidak, my son did the same thing. He grabbed his teddy put a diaper on it, strapped it into the carseat and placed his sippy cup next to the teddy stating, ok I;m ready. I thought It was the cutest thing. I would get your son something that you and him can do together alone when baby is sleeping or calm. It is important for him not to feel left out and I think children feel a little neglected and jealous of the newborn, so I think the perfect gift would be something that shows him how special he is and that this is something just for him and mommy to do together. It'll be your special time together.

I was thinking about the big brother, little brother shirts Lauren, I need to go to babies r us and see if I can find one in his size. :-)

Jen85-that's cute that your son did the same thing with a teddy bear. :-) Kadin is into games right now, go fish, candy land, etc so I got him chutes and ladders the other day and put aside for after we are home and the baby is resting one day I thought he'd like to be surprised with a new game we can play together. I definitely don't want him to feel left out or anything.
