I'm 34 years old and have been on the PILL for 16 years, until last month, and am now trying to conceive. Around the time of my ovulation I experienced the symptoms of pregnancy, however today discovered that I'm not pregnant, after being 3 days late.

well after being on the pill for that long i think it's going to take a little more than a month for your body to get back to normal....i was on the pill for about 5 years. and my periods were all screwed to hell for like forever!!! and it took me 3 years to get pregnant. I swear that pill is evil!!! lol

your body is going to take quite a bit to try and get itself back into whack without those hormones in the pills. more than likely say goodbye to regular periods for a while or possibly for good. i have read it can take as long as 7 months just to begin trying to conceive, but everyones body is different. goodluck

I was on the pill for 7 years and I did not have irregular periods after coming off of it, and it took 4 months to concieve. But being on it for 16 years with out any breaks could take your body a lot longer time to adjust. Just don't stress about it, seems that when people are relaxed and not trying so hard is when it happens.

I believe it will take some time to conceive. i would suggest to keep your mind pre-occupied and not stress it. Also It might be smart to start taking pre-natal vitamins you can get them over the counter at like wal-greens if you have the option they also have a ovulation predictor however it's costly about $200 but I have heard it is very good better than the sticks. if you look to hard for the symptoms of pregnancy it is possible for your body to adapt and start making you think you are just because your brain is telling it so. well anyway I hope I was of some help

You should ideally wait at least 3 cycles before trying to conceive, as it will take that long for the Pill to get out of your system completely. If you conceive and the Pill is still in your system, it can damage the developing fetus. However now is a good time to start taking pre-natal vitamins especially folic acid to give your baby the best start for when you do conceive. Please remember that, as many women on this site including myself will tell you, getting pregnant is a struggle even for the most fertile couple. I'm only 23, yet it took over a year of ditching the Pill to get pregnant. Don't expect it to happen right away, but if it does, brilliant!! Best of luck!

I was only on the pill for about a year and hated every second of it. When I came off it I freaked out because my cycle went for something like 95 days, I thought I might have been pregnant then. (I was at university and too young to have a child then). I agree that the pill is evil. Try to give your body a break as it has been dosed up on that crap for so long. After you are cleansed from it hopefully you will fall pregnant.

Good luck. I am also ttc so I know the frustration and pain of expecting to be pregnant and then getting your af.

I took the pill for 8 years. I stopped and the very first cycle I got pregnant. I never heard anything about the pill damaging a fetus. It is true that you should go to the Dr. and get vitamins. It is also a really good Idea to do blood work before hand, just to make sure you are in good health. My O/B is wonderful! He is a friend of the family and is simple the best. When I started trying the first time he didn't advise waiting at all after I stopped the pill. I wasn't so lucky the second time it took about 6 months I guess. Good luck! The second time I tried, I used one of thoose ovulation things that you spit on not pee on. The one that you spit on you can use over and over again. Then you can pass iot on to a friend when you are done. It only cost about $40 and I got it at CVS.

Sorry to hear that this month didn't bring you good news. Since you have been on the pill as long as you have it might take sometime for you to get pregnant. Each birth control pill actually has a time span of on long it will actually last, then there is your body who has to adjust to you not taking the pill anymore. This could take as long 6 months or longer. I was on birth control for 1 year after my son was born and it took me over a year to concieve my daughter. I was diagnose with Secondary Infertility what had happened when I came off the pill is that I never ovulated regulary.

You should definitely be on some kind of folic acid supplement if u r trying to conceive. I was on the pill for 9 and a half years and my first cycle took 42 days..it was so frustrating!! My cycle was never really regular after that, sometimes it was 30 days and once it went for 47 days, and i was trying to conceive. I was beside myself over it. It took us 15 months, but we finally became pregnant and my daughter is 15 weeks old now. I am not in any hurry to go back on the damn pill because i don't want to have that trouble conceiveing again in a few years, it was too mentally exhausting
