Hello! I am 8w2d pregnant with twins. I am scared to death of the Vanishing Twin possibility. Have any of you ladies had a vanishing twin? If so, did you know that it happened before it was confirmed on the sonogram? Did you have any symptoms? How far along were you when the twin disappeared? ANY info you can share would be awesome. Thanks!

oooooh im not having twins or anything but that is so weird. they meld into the other twin and the other twin can have parts of the otehr twin stuck on it. but i saw this on discovery like yesterday and they said this only happens like in the first week or 2 so it wont happen to you.

Hey JENN are you the same one that watches the Discovery channel all the time LOL if that is you that I am thinking of you need to get out more LOL I think that is going to start making you weird LOL LOL
Just messin with ya tho.
Hey Suzy, I haven't heard of that happening in a wile! I was told I might have twins but I only have one yolk sack my worries are that they could get stuck together like siameese or something, I am very little will they have room to grow? I wasn't told for a fact I had twins but I am getting much bigger and the yolk sack was too big for 1 baby to be in it. UHHHH
Jenn was right I have heard that vanishing twins (which are not very common but happen more in places where there is little to none medical there) some babys are born with the parts but others are born kinna like they are pregnant, I was watching something on the Discovery Health channel (all medical it is a really neet channel get to watch people have kids and all) (any way) this mom that lived in a place like I described (little to none medical there) had a son, she didn't know that she was even going to have twins, but when her son was born his stomach was a werd shape and then when he was 5 he almost looked pregnant, the twin had went totally inside him (that was poof no more twin to know about, yes vanishing) and that is more of what they call vanishing twin. They brung the boy to America to have a really good Dr see him because his health was bad and he kept saying that his tummy hurt, so they did a sono x-rays and what ever else they could do and saw this weird thing, they cut his tummy pulled it out and it had hair and parts of what looked to be a forming baby, and they did biopsys and every thing and it was a baby but this little forming baby had lots of hair all over unlike forming babys and when they got to looking at it, this thing was still kinna growing in hin it was the size of a really big soft ball (base ball that is really big) and well it had where the fingers was forming and had kind of a face they couldn't really make it out but a face and nubbys for arms and legs but no nubs for feet just legs. Don't worry to Suzy that is uncommon and more likely to happen where this is little to none medical, Bye now!

Thank you ladies for your response.

I did some research and I have about a 20% chance of one twin miscarrying and being reabsorbed into my body. But the good news of that is there is an 80% chance that it won't. As long as I make it to 12w with both of them, life will be good.

I am glad to hear that!
I didn't mean to make that so long!

If you think that is strange do a Google search on 'acardiac fetus' and 'craniopagus parasiticus'.
