Call the Civil Rights Commission ASAP. I had to use them in Indiana and they were wonderful. It doesn't cost a thing! They will do for you exactly what a lawyer would.

By law women who are pregnant cannot be discriminated against.
I am being discrimitated against!!!
Someone has to make the first move to help other hundreds of women
in my same situation who have been bullied into just drop it and forget about it.....
If I dont do this I know I will hate myself for letting them walk all over me. I just cannot let them do that, and see them sit back and laugh at me.

Ok so NOW your saying its against the law........why did you post this then asking if it could be against the law?

And again i will say it, a employer cannot be expected to pay you to sit on your ass..if your job description was someone else completley when you first started. Understand this!

Where I'm from, you pay a bit out of each paycheck into Employment Insurance, so if you get laid off, or pregnant, the government will pay you 55% of your bi-weekly wage, while you're out of work. My work can't do anything if I get pregnant. And when I'm ready to start my leave, or doctor advises it, then that's the way it is. And after my maternity is over they legally have to take me back as an employee....it's a pretty good gig!

but my boss was so nice...when i got pregnant, his wife had just had a baby, so he always made sure he was stuffing my face full of food, found jobs for me that were less stressful and if I needed to get something heavy, he got someone to get it for me! :-) I hope things work out for you!!

Thats crazy. I know How you feel. I was working for a bank a large bank at that. I had told my manager I was pregnant her attitude changed. I had just started working there about 1month and got pregnant about 1-2 weeks later with no knowledge.
Well, I ALSO got fired because of that so I know how you feel. GO GET a lawyer That's what I did. It's not a quick process but you stand up for your rights and YOUR babys.

Logan, you are entitled to unemploment compensation, at least it is some money coming in. Do you have disability coverage at work? If so, look into that

Your only route is the prove that they do have such as thing as "light duties" and that they could provide you with such, as long as it's not taking someone else's job. Otherwise, no, I don't think you can cite discrimination. We had a similar situation here with a lady with severe kidney disease. She was on dialysis three times a week. When the doctor said she was not allowed to lift beyond certain weights (which restricted a lot of her work responsibilities), they had to bring someone in to do that part of her job which meant paying two people to do the same job. Eventually, she had to go on permanent disability because she was never going to come back to normal. Someone mention ticket counter duties, if that task could be made available to you, then I suggest you say something to HR because then you do have grounds for discrimination.

The rules are varied from state to state, and also it might be different if it's a big company like Delta. But, you can still call a layer that specialized in work discrimination. They will most likely not charge you anything just for consultation. If they see they've got good chance to win the case, they’ll probably charge you 0, but will get some percentage if they win. Like %20. That is worth trying, what can you loose???
It happened to me when a lady hit me with a car, and broke my arm. I didn’t want to start to suing, but a lawyer friend of mine convinced me that I’ve got nothing to loose, and she was right. I paid nothing up front. It took a long time (almost a year) but the lawyer got me 15,000 and from that he took %21. You can also call woman’s right org. like now.org, and see what they say. You could also, demonstrate in front of Delta booth and call the media, which will look real bad for them. Write a sign “fired for being pregnant!!!”
Ohh that will make big sensation! I’m sure some women would love to come and help, since some women feel very strongly about things like that.

Logan, The phone number will be in the government section of the phonebook. If you can't find it just call information and ask them. Good luck!

sez, in Australia it is discrimination. I am Australian, and please be mindful of Logan's feelings, this is a traumatic time for her and her husband.

Logan since it is an airline are there ticketing duties you can do or be on a phone assistance line etc... surely some of the means you don't have to lift luggage... airlines do have office jobs.

I feel so sorry for you honey. How nare along are you now? Please take care and try not to stress, this baby is worth more than all the pigs at your work.

I am thinking of you.

Name: A Mom To Be | Date: Feb 20th, 2007 12:47 PM
spankyx0711 I know that sez is Australian, that is why I dont understand why she said it is not descrimintion to lay off/fire a pregnant worker because they are pregnant. In Australia it is descrimination, infact it is in most western countries.
