OK. It has now been 5 days since my due date; I'm showing no signs of labour, and am scheduled for an Induction of labour on Tuesday 11th. I have to be at hospital at 7.45am.

I know Randi was induced. I'm not sure if there has been anyone else? They've told me if my cervix is 'unfavourable' that they'll need to use prostaglandin gel, and if it is favourable they'll break my waters, and put me on the intravenous drip to start contractions. All sounds clinical, and not the way I imagined it would be for me and Joey, but I'd love to hear other peoples experience of induction, how long it took etc.

Thank you!
(40+5-weeks)

i was induced with both of my daughters. it was seven hours of labor with my first, and then four with my second. i didn't have any pain medicine with either one(and that was not easy) but it was worth it and i loved my experience with both of my daughters. i wish you all the luck in the world, and i'm sure everything will turn out just fine. maybe you'll get lucky and go into labor on your own tonight!

i had 3 membrane sweeps and after the 3rd one he sent me to the hospital to be induced. i was on piticon for all of my labor because i wasn't dialting. they broke my water about 2 hours later. with piticon my contractions came steady, hard, and fast. after 18 hours and a thought of a c-section my son was born.

I got induced with my son, I was already 4cm when I went to the hospital, they gave me pitocin and I waited. I started pushing (fully dilated) 12 hours later and after almost 5 hours of pushing, the baby had not dropped down, so they ended up doing a c-section. I was like you are, never imagined I would have to be induced, never imagined I would have a c-section, etc. I hope your little guy makes his entrance soon. I know you said in another post you've been walking alot, etc., you could also try getting foot massage (sometimes will bring on contractions). Good luck!

From what I remember (I try to block it out lol) I was 1cm when I got to the hospital. They started to induce me on a Tuesday 6pm and I hit 10cm Wednesday night at 10:40pm. It took me 1 hour exactly to push him out. I had an epidural I couldn't sleep through the night. I was maybe being a big baby about it, but I was crying because of the pain the whole time. The pitocen sucked, the doc broke my water, sweeped my membranes, and he did other stuff I can't remember. I was two weeks overdue and I am hoping this baby will come out on her own! Good Luck I am sure you will be stronger than I was.

I know you know my story already, but I just want to add that if you are not in a HUGE hurry and not progressing (with your cervix) let them keep trying the gel. My cervix would not change much after 2 does of gel, but that is because Kaden had been breech until that morning so there was no pressure. It was a lot more comfortable pain/contraction wise than the pitocin. I didn't start to dilate more though until I got the epidural after 17 hours.

Oh, and try not to let them put an internal monitor on him. They used one for Kaden and I had never heard of them. The wires broke when they tried to take it out and he was born (by c section) with a white plastic screw in his head. He still has a big scar from it.

Randi,
I've never heard of them using those internal monitors during labor either. That is the scariest thing I've ever heard! I'm so glad that Kaden is okay (other than the scarring).

i have been induced with all three of my kids.

1-i was 4cm dilated when they hooked up the pit. 9 1/2 hours later i was told to push...pushed 10min and out came Emma

2-i was 4 to 6 cm dilated (depending on who checked me!) when they hooked up the pit. 2 1/2 hours later i was told to push...pushed 3 times and out came Gracie

3-i was 3cm dilated when they hooked me up to the pit. 7 1/2 hours later they said to push...i pushed 10mins and out came Cole.

i had an epi with emma and cole and i didn't have any pain meds with gracie. i know everyone is always putting down inductions but i loved all three of my labors and everything went wonderful.

Hey ya Briseis,
I was induced at 42 weeks i started to have contractions the night before i got induced but nothing regular and they were not very strong...so i went to the hospital at 6am the next morning and got checked and i was 5cm dialated!!!! But sitll nothing regular so the doc came in and broke my water then put my on sintocien(spelling..im a shocker) that was at about 12pm...at 5pm i was fully dialated and ready to push but olivia was still t high up in my pelvis so i was told even though i really wanted to push and my epi was wearing off i was not allowed..so for 2 hours i had to just lay there not pushing and doing deep breathing and then at 7pm i got the all clear and pushed for 2 hours and 7 mins...and out came Olivia!!!
I had the epi before i was induced as my midwife told me that because i was already 5cm the contractions would come on very strong very quick and i slept for 3 hours while things were happening i could not feel anything!!! It was really nice....
in all my induction expecience was pretty good. It all went pretty smooth as was not to bad!!!!!!

I was induced at 38 weeks. I was "in labor" for the 3 weeks leading up to it. 1st week 1 cm dialated 25 % effaced, 2nd week 2 cm dialated 50 % effaced, 3rd week 3 cm dialated 75% effaced and regular but not strong contractions so they wouldn't send me home. They monitored my contractions and they weren't going anywhere, but I kept dialating. They started the pitocin at around 8 pm. Contractions were in my back and strong for short periods and ached. They broke my water at 5 am, and predicted "a long day ahead." I finally gave in and got an epi at 7 am. I delivered at 8:21 am. :) No long day for us! I hope you are so lucky! Best to you!

Thank you for letting me know; it's really good to see that some peoples' experience was pleasant! I'm now 6 days overdue, no signs of labour, so looks like I'm facing induction tomorrow, at exactly 41-weeks. Last week, the doctor told me my cervix is preparing for labour, I was 1-2 cms dilated, she sweeped my membranes and the day after I lost my mucus plug, so hopefully that's a sign that things might be easier ...
