is it urgent that you get it done? do the risks of whatever you need it done for outweigh the risks to your baby?

no.I don't think so.He said I had a low grade something or other that was high risk..... whatever didn't get it.... but.... anyhow,he said they wouldn't treat it until after the baby is born anyhow. so I think I want to cancel it.

no,it is where they look at the cervix and put vinegar on it to see if there are any lesions???? then they take a biopsy.

It is fairly safe to do while pregnant, but if biopsies are taken they should be kept at a minimum and using precise care. If a pregnant woman gets an abnormal Pap reading at a routine exam, it is still recommended that a second exam, with a colposcope be performed. You should be careful though since this test is for abnormal cells like cancer.

but, they can't do anything until after the baby is born anyways,so what's the point of doing it now?

Beacuse you would know now if there is truly something to worry about. If your physician is able to view the entire abnormal area through the colposcope, a tissue sample or biopsy is taken from the whitest abnormal areas and sent to the lab for further evaluation.

Cryosurgery or a freezing of the abnormal cells may be performed next and, in some cases, can make this a diagnostic/ treatment procedure in one. This is what they would wait for after delivery. Knowledge is power. Better to know now

I had one done almost 2 months before I got pregnant. I had LEEP done 3 weeks before becoming pregnant. The colposcopy is uncomfortable, but it really isn't that bad. You want to have it done to make sure the cells aren't cancerous, or on the way to becoming cancerous. They may not be able to do any treatment if needed until after baby is born, but it could just be abnormal cells. Treatment may not be needed, just a close eye. The biopsy that they take is minimal. I had little to no bleeding, and mostly discharge from the dye they put in there. I was back to normal within 3-4 days. Just talk with your doc a little more about it before you have it done. Also, it can make some women nauseas. At my docs office they gave me a pill for nausea and a couple motrin. You might want to see if they will give you something before.

Do you think it would hurt to put it off until a little later in pregnancy? Just enough so if it causes labor the baby will be ok.? I've had enough infections down there Im scared of another.

A lot of times infections are the cause of an abnormal reading so you may be fine. Ask you doctor their opinion on waiting and the percent of women who have had complications as a result of this exam. It is fairly routine so I wouldn't worry or wait. Without you, there would be no baby. Take care of yourself too.

That's your call. It may be a good idea to put it off for just a bit, but you definitely want to get it done. I was reading my other post and I misspoke...I had some cramping the day of and no bleeding. I was a bit sore the next day, but it wasn't bad, just uncomfortable when they did it. The LEEP really sucked, but I can't imagine they would do that while pregnant. Call your doctor tomorrow and ask them why they want to do it so early during pregnancy if they can't treat it, if it needs it. Ask them if they could move it back, and let them know you would be more comfortable to do it at a later date if possible. I did end up getting a slight infection (only caused odor, ew) from the dye, but when they used it for LEEP I didn't get an infection. I'm supposed to get another pap done in Aug, and my doc isn't even going to do that since I'm preggers. He said that once you become pregnant your chances of having an irregular pap are slim. Just call them and ask if it's necessary to right now. Sorry so long. Good luck and don't stress over it too much. If they do do it, I'm sure everything will be fine. Like I said it really isn't that bad.

I think I might see about waiting. At first doc said that was ok,then he said since it was scheduled just keep it,but turns out he'll be out of the office that day anyhow and I'll have another new guy staring at my twat.... oh yay.

If the doc said it could wait I would. Just don't put it off too long. You definitely want to make sure you are healthy for you little one.

Yeha,I was thinking at even 30 weeks I would feel better about it.Even 34 weeks.I also would prefer my own doc do it...

question, I had high grade cells show up on my pap when I first got preggers. They suggested a colposcopy also, but upon doing further research...like yourself I was told/read that they wouldn't actually do anything until after the baby was born, so I figured what they heck I'll wait. I also read that a large percentage of those abnormal paps come back as normal after the baby is born. So after Wyatt was born I had a pap redone (instead of the colposcopy) and lo-and-behold, it came back normal. Good luck with whatever you choose.

can you still get pregnant if your pap comes back a high-risk tho.?? im just curipis because i recently had a pap and it came back as low risk but im just curious...is this that common?? my doc says it is but sometimes i feel she just says that to make me feel better cuz she knows it bothers me.
