im pregnant right now but im scared that after i have the baby and my bf and i are going to be intamite again, that i will end up pregnant. so i was talking to my sister in law and she said that after she had her baby, about 6 weeks later she went to the doctor and had some kind of thing inserted into her to where she wouldnt get pregnant and that its good for 5 years. i asked her if she could feel it when they are intamite and she said that she couldnt but at first her husband did and so she went back to the doctor to get it cut shorter. i dont know what this is but it sounds wonderful. she has an 11 month old son and she had not yet gotten pregnant and that her husband can ejaculate and everything in her!!! i dont trust the pills or the shot. ive been on both and nothing happened but ive heard people getting pregnant while on these things. does anyone know what im talking about?

Heather, your sister in law more than likely has what is called the IUD. I had it in at one time but it was too big i guess and started to fall out so they took it out and i didnt want to have it back in. But it was one of the best birth controls i had tried.

it was an IUD. i had one for 5 years and it worked great until the last year. i started having painful and extremely heavy periods and decided to have it removed. also, my husband and i wanted to have another baby. three months after it was removed i found out i was pregnant. at 5 1/2 weeks i started spotted and having pains. after a few days, the pain was unbearable and was only on my right side. i went to the emergency room and they did and ultrasound and the baby was not in the uterus, it was in my tube. they did a surgery and removed my tube because it was getting ready to rupture. i was only 6 weeks, but i was devistated for months. the doctor said the IUD probably caused some scar tissue in my tube and the egg couldnt pass through, but that there was no proof that the IUD was the cause. i have read many books that support IUD's causing ectopic pregnancies. after that happened, i got pregnant 4 months later and had a miscarriage. got prego 2 months later. another miscarriage. i decided to take a break for a while for my body and my broken heart, so we avoided sex during ovulation time. sure enough,4 weeks after my last miscarriage, i found out i was pregnant. now i am 21 weeks. i dont know for sure if the IUD was to blame for my problems, but i do know that i had 2 healthy babies before the IUD and never had miscarriages before that either. just investigate a little before you get on. a girl i know had and IUD and got pregnant because it wasnt in the right place. the IUD got embeded in the babys head and they had to terminate the pregnancy.

i am with jen on this one...just be careful that the iud is what you want. I too had an uid my iud came out on its own last october, although i would have had to get it taken out in january. I already have 3 boys and we want to try for one more...well I am 2 days late on my period today, but I was so fearful that i was not gonna be able to have any more children. I too had alot of pain every month either right before or during ovulation time and only on the left side.....the pain was sharp and strong. I wish you luck on your pregnancy Heather...I would love to talk to Jen about what kind of iud you have i think we have alot in common and I wonder if anyone else have had aiud and are going through trouble.....

Heather make sure you get as much knowledge as you can about the iud. It does have alot of good things too, just make sure the good out-wieght the bad.

there are some other methods you may want to consider, the Nuvaring and the patch, both stay on/in for 3 weeks, then out for the cycle...I used the ring and it was great! Although it took right at 5 months for my cycle to become normal and I got pregnant immediately! Good luck to you!

hi trinny. i dont have the iud anymore of course, because i am pregnant, but the one i did have was good for 10 years. i dont know the exact name of it though. alsom my sister-in-law and my mom had an iud, and they both had it removed because of pain and bleeding. aside from the fact that its great at preventing pregnancy if inserted correctly, i cant think of anyone i know that loved the iud.

Hey Heather i think what your talking about is an IUD or a copper 7, my mom had one for five years, and when she decided she was ready to have another one she was pregnant within the month, i dont think it has any side affects, actually its the only kind of birth control she can use. hope this helps.

it is more than likely an IUD, which seems to be the consensus around here. The only problem with the iud after pregnancy is that I'm pretty sure my doctor told me it was not an option for nursing mothers. So if you're planning on nursing you might want to go ahead and ask your doctor about it before you have the baby.

I have an IUD and it's fine - no problems at all. When I wanted another baby I had it removed and became pregnant the next month.

The chances of having an ectopic pregnancy are slightly higher if you have an IUD and if you've ever had any pelvic infection you perhaps shouldn't have one fitted either as it lead to more infection. There is an IUD which has progesterone in it - this makes your periods much lighter and also enhances the contraceptive qualities of the IUD.
