well the other day i started Xylea on stage 1 baby foods. the dr told us to start her on bannanas so i went and bought 2 of each stage 1 foods. we gave her nannas but she hated them and she spitted them out and would just cry. well yesteray i told dino mabye we should try a diff one since she didnt like it. so i chose the green beans and she loooooved it. she made some funny yuckie faces at first but then she ate it. wooohoooo. we got it on video and i want to put it on you tube but dino thinks not. he dosent feel the need to advertise his daughter on the internet for people to see. also dino is a pro at computers and he says anyone could get ahold of that video and edit it and make it nasty and he does not want that to happen. this is why there is no pictures on my myspace either but i am going to try my hardest to get the video up.

so how is everyone today?

did you know a baby can reject a food 10-15 times before actually liking it?

Name: jillw | Date: Jun 22nd, 2007 5:49 PM
keep trying to ofer it to her. SHe will start to like it most of the time. It may have just been a bad time of day for her. Oh don't worry though she will quickly learn to like the sweet stuff LOL she just hasn't had enough experience with it yet LOL

why not jsut take a fresh banana and mash it with a fork?? maybe she might like that better, you can buy a whole bunch of bananas for the price of one jar!!!

zoey i think there may be a risk in that b.c of the allergic reaction some people tend to have. i think there is something about the canned foods compaired to fresh.

Sophie never liked the jarred bananas and I don't blame her. They're nasty and slimy. But she loves fresh bananas. I started giving her fresh mashed banana instead of the jarred.

Coart - As long as it's a food that has a thick peel like that, there's not much to worry about. But with other foods, you're right. Most of the baby books list which foods can be eaten raw and which foods need to be cooked first. I personally think the baby foods are a waste of money, and Sophie only liked a couple of them. With Zoe we're just going to get a food mill, and I'm not even going to give her any solids until after she turns 6 months.

well i myself only eat organic or soy anything. obviously a baby needs real nutrition cant have him eating soy everything lol .. but i dont plan on giving him nanners that soon, i do have an allergy to them, and im not risking that. BAH. same with penicillin and latex and dairy lol . yeh im a wittle screwy haha.. but i was gonna ask the pediatrician if when i do start him on little veggies and fruits if i could puree the real deal

Coart, the jarred baby food is pretty much just pureed fruits and veggies, with some water added. Some of them have vitamin C added as well. I just read the labels on the few jars I already have...some Del Monte and some Beech Nut...and they all had the food, water, and some of them had ascorbic acid. So...you would almost definitely be ok pureeing your own, but definitely watch him with things you're allergic to, because it's more likely that he will be too.

actually coart organic and soy are great for babies and children too. I plan to stick to that exact diet with kendra. I don't want her getting all of the hormones in non organic foods. Also humans are the only mamals that keep drinking milk after they are old enough to eat. Soy milk is fine to have after age one instead of regular milk. I too plan to make baby food for kendra, or buy the organic pre made baby food just to have some on hand. Doesn't randi make her own?? I am going to have to research the guidlines soon.

How old is Xylea? I thought she was under 6 months?

Also Coart, the babyfood that comes in jars has thickening agents that they do not need to include on the ingredients list. Many babies have a reaction to them as well.

brandiss the dr gave you the ok to give food already? That seems still a bit earily. I always heard that 4mo was the soonest and some dr say it is better to wait until 6mo. My dr says that if people choose to go on the earily side like 4months that they stick to one- two small feedings per day and feed the same food for five days to make sure that there are no allergic reactions. She also said to stay away from the foods that are common allergents until they are 6+ months old. Are you sure that dino understood her right? Maybe she was saying it is ok to start food soon?

jill - i dont know what dino was told but she told him that she could start on stage 1 bannanas, she told him half the jar in the morning and the other half at night. reason being is that latley she has been puking her whole bottle up and its been every feeding also after she pukes she wants to eat within a hour or 2 after that feeding. i started the bannanas but she always spit them out. i tried the green beans and she liked them. i still dont give it to her everyday, i actually quit because i want to give her thoes at 4 months, but i have started mixing the cereal with formula and water and making it simi thick and she likes it. i only give her 3 spoonfulls and thats all. how do you do it with kendra do you mix it with her bottle or spoon feed?

bottle

ok, i do that already so i guess i will just keep it that way. i wonder what kind of nipple she uses because i give xylea 6oz with 5 tsp and she can suck it out ok with the y shaped feeder nipple but it seems like sometimes its too thick, but kendra puts 1 tbsp per oz if i remember right so i wonder if she uses a different feeder nipple.

Name: Coartney | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 3:37 PM
i just make the whole bigger and use that for cereal feedings only so he doesnt choke and kendra gets 6 oz 5tbsp

hole*

Name: mizzescalante | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 3:41 PM
i knew it was something like that.

hey how do you make the hole in the nipple bigger?

Name: Coartney | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 3:43 PM
i take a knife, or something, clean sharp and thinnn and just poke it open a little. i suppose stage twos do the job too

Name: mizzescalante | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 3:56 PM
i was told once to poke the hole with a hot needle but i tried that and it didnt work. i didnt think about using a knife.

Name: mizzescalante | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 3:58 PM
i bought 1 pkg of the feeder nipples and they work great but it seems like the slw flow nipples are getting to small for xylea. i mean she sucks on them and its like the nipple pops in her mouth like she is sucking so hard and not much is comming out that it pops. kinda like she breaks the suction.

Name: jillw | Date: Jun 25th, 2007 4:49 PM
I♥ U Coart :)
Brandiss I just cut a slit in her regular nipples. Not to big, but big enough that if I squeeze the nipple it would open up. I think it does the same thing as the feeder nipples, but I have never seen them. Jeremiah didn't get any cereal until her was like 5 months and I used a spoon so I never had to deal with the nipple issue.
