I have 3 kids and have been divorced for 7 years. My 14 year old continually throws out the "I'm going to live with dad" line when he gets mad at me for whatever reason. If his dad were in a position to take him, I would help him take some meager posessions, and drop him off. His dad won't even pay child support because he's "trying to get back on track financially". How do I deal with this repetitive issue?

Ignore him - he's probably just doing it because he knows that it will worry you.

If you can possibly face doing it then tell him to go - chances are he won't take you up on the offer, or he'll be back in a week when he finds out the life with dad is utter crap!

Tell him to go and ask his father...he may not even take him..or better still ring him up and see how he feels about his son coming to stay with him...put your feelers out...if he doesnt want to take him let him ring your son and have him tell him...ya know something along the lines of....im not financially able to have you with me just yet son If your lucky enough that your ex cant or wont take your son....then he wont be able to throw that in your face forever more....if you do decide your sick of your son saying that all the time then take him up on his bluff..like atomic said he'll probably be back in a couple of weeks......(you wont even need to pay him child support because he owes you 7 years of it)..
good luck

In Canada, we have this thing called Family Maintenance. As long as the parent has a job they take money out of their bank accounts and then gives the money to the rightful person. You just have to get a court order. If they aren't employed the courts can't really do anything but....Is there anything like that where you are?

we pay through family maintnance, but they do not take the money right from our account, we send them the money every month....It is a great system.....

oh!! my mom had a real problem with paying so they took it right from her. LOL....she refused to pay and everytime she would go to the judge to get it lowered, he'd raise it. I think originally she only had to pay something like $100.00/month and in the end it was $500.00/month....LOL...she doesn't pay anymore obviously..i'm grown up!! :-)
