Ok well my little man wont be here until the end of december..but i was already thinking about having a dog for him.

Now what i want to know is what is a good breed to have around a child, especially a newborn.

Ive had Huskies, Poodles and a labrador before

The poodle was a excellent dog to have around kids..but it is kinda gay looking for a little boy ( dont be offended poodle lovers ) The huskie was good very protective of me..so maybe if my son was brought up with one it would protect him too?
And the Lab, she was a fantastic dog to have around, very placid.

Does anyone else have other suggestions?

I'd suggest none until your son is at least two or three. Then a lab is a good choice. It is hard to be a new parent and have a new dog at the same time. My daughter just had a baby and I don't think she could find the time for a puppy right now. One of them Benji looking dogs is good for a young child too. The important thing is find a dog you like. You will be the one caring for the dog.

13itchy I agree with Deanna, just wait till he is old enough to walk. I would go with some thing small for in side with a small one. I am also looking for a small dog. I like the Brussels Griffon's they are cute.
