I have an 8-month-old kitten. I've had her since she was 7-weeks. I rescued her from a farm. I have 2 dogs, 2 birds, and another cat who don't give me any trouble. Ever since I got this damn cat, shes attacked my dogs several times, tearing one's eyes so badly he needed surgery, and has permanent eye damage (even when he didn't nothing to her!) She managed to get into the living room and try to kill my birds. The only thing which saved them was they were in their cage, but one did himself a lot of damage flying into the cage in panic, and couldn't fly for 2 weeks. Shes torn my new leather sofa, my curtains, she poos and pees in the house (given that I am 20-weeks pregnant this is dangerous due to the risk of toxoplasmosis) I've put a bell on her collar, and still she brings live mice into the house, and she kills all the lovely wild birds. I've just had to take a damaged female blackbird she attacked to the vets to see if they can save her. I don't want to rehome the cat because I know she'll only kill wild birds somewhere else, and I don't want that! I don't buy the 'it's their instinct' garbage, because the cat has plenty of food all the time. I even give it fresh tuna every morning. She has no reason to hunt! My other cat never hunts. The vets refuse to declaw the cat. I don't feel I have any options left! I wish to God I never got her!

It sounds like this cat would do better if she lived on a farm. I don't know if you live near to the country, but that would be the best idea. She'll keep the mice population under control - farms are usually plagued by mice.

If you declaw her she will have to be a permanent in door cat, she will have no defences with out her claws. It sounds like she is more than you bargained for, she is causing much stress for you. I know you dont want to rehome her but from what you have said it sounds like that may be your only option. Good luck!

I don't even like the cat anymore. My fiancé says to wait till shes an adult and maybe then she'll calm down, and stop being so destructive. I don't mind her having no defences! She can run into the catflap in the garage if she needs to escape danger. She has no reason to have claws if she is only going to use them to cause harm to other living creatures. But the vets say it's illegal. I'm contemplating euthanising her ... If it weren't for me, she'd be dead anyway. The farmer I rescued her from had her in a bag ready to be drowned as vermin. But I stopped him, and said I'd take the cat. I didn't even want the damn thing! I've spoken to a few farmers who say they don't want her because she would only attack their bird and chicks. And she won't do anywhere as an indoor cat because she won't use cat litter and she's destructive, and dangerous with any other pets. Besides my fiancé and I are the only people she'll come near. She's practically feral. I'm not rehoming her so she can continue to cause harm to wildlife. I need to think of the greater good ...

I spoke to the vet, who say they won't euthanise her if she's healthy! For Christ's sake. Why do these damn vets make everything so bloody complicated? Declawing her would be the answer but noooooo. I'm buying her a huge bell for her collar, to warn the wildlife seeing as the one she has on at the minute is useless. Shes got one month. If I see one more dead bird, or another incidence of cruelty from her, and I'll have my fiancé deal with her the way farmers deal with Chrismas turkeys. I'll have no other choice.

I don't mean to sound as though I'm being cruel. But if you only saw the poor little bird she brings home which are half dead and screaming, and my fiancé has to put them out of their misery. This is on a weekly basis! If I have a choice of either allowing her to kill an innocent bird a week for no reason other than her own pleasure, or killing her, then I don't feel I have a choice. She has completely hardened my heart of compassion for her.

Found a special collar that's designed to stop her killing birds! It's expensive but worth a shot! That's for everyone's advice!

Well it looks as though you already have it all figured out. I dont know but I wouldnt like my fingers cut of at the nuckel. Thats how most vets declaw a cat! Sounds kinda crewl to me, but its your cat not mine! Good luck with him. Ohh yah when a cat is declawd they will resort to bitting and you dont want to get bit by a cat.
