Oh.... Charla! I am so deeply sorry! xxxxxxxx. You are doing the write thing for her, if she is suffering than thats what needs to be done. The poor little pumpking. Just love her tonight, she will feel it! My poor old lasy dog had another seizure to day, I will have to increase her meds again. It will make her drunk seeming, she stumbles and is not as concious of thing when it is increased. I will make an appointment for her tommorrow to increase the meds, plus she still needs her ear checked out. Please, let me know how it goes and keep in mind my thoughts will be with you, stay strong! Give the little angle a big hug and a kiss for me.

Charla are you sure ther isnt any thing that can be done for her? I was talking to my daughter about this, she asked if her shunt was in the liver or on the out side. She has been studding vetraniarian medicine for quite some time. she mentioned some interesting facts, she said in small dogs such as yours the shunt is almost always on the out side of the liver. In that case she would have at least a 70% or better chance that the surgery would be succesful. She said the surgery is quite simple to do all they have to do is locate the vain that is routing the blood away from the liver, tie it of so that it will rout the blood back to its original path( that is to the liver.) Talk again to your vet before you have her put to sleep, ask him what the avrage survival rate is for a small dog with a shunt out side the liver. He should tell you a good high stastic rate. I know it can be expensive to have this kind of surgery but some vets will allow payments.

lindalu your daughter is very right unfortunatly there is only 1 dr. in oklahoma that does this and the cost is very steep 1,400 just to open her up before all of that they do an ultrasound more blood work and some other tests we are looking at roughly 3,500 dollers and trust me if i could make payments i would do it no questions asked but they want half when we drop her off and the rest when we pick her up also the first 5 min after they open up the valve that is damaged is very cruatual becouse all that stuff will be flowing in and or out. i will talk to vet before making my final desicion maybe he could talk with the surgion about making payments although i doubt he could. tell your daughter thank you for the info i have read what i can on the web about it but bottum line she wiil have to have this surgery that i just cant afford all at once.

Im sorry Charla! I know you will do what you can for her. It is sad that vets charge so much, and if one cant afford it they will let the animal die. I will be thinking of you today again.....BIG HUGS for both you and the little pumpking!

Unfortunatly things dont always turn out the way we hope, do remember there was a reason she came to you! It hurts to lose an animal, I know I have lost several to death. In a couple weeks you will notice you will beable to say her name with out tearing and then you will be able to enjoy the happy memories about her.

i had a rough night since she slept with hubby and i well mostly cuddled with me and our border- retriever is kinda lost always looking for her so its still hard , hubby called from work suggesting we might start looking for another pug but right now i cant think about it , i am not trying to replace her ever she was one of a kind.

Charla by getting another, doesnt mean you are replacing the last one. It is possibble the next pup would be ment for you to have, that could be why the other one had her problems. Like I said before every thing happens for a reason!
