My daughter started up a forum, after only two weeks she had over 200 subscribers and hundreds of guests viewers each day. Well...people started to get pretty explicit with language and other things, so to attempt to keep the forum clean she opened up an over 18 live chat room for people who wanted to vent.

I thought it was a great idea to provide this rm, and it worked wonderfully.

The rm is password protected you can't just enter, and I was informed by my daughter that I am not allowed in that room. YES..You did read it rite, I AM BANNED! I was also asked not to reveal that I am her mum. She said the reason she doesn't want me in the rm is because she doesn't want me to see what she talks about.

I do understand I am her mum and I shouldn't know every thing, but I cant help feeling a bit insulted by it. I of course am not comfortable on her forum any more so I left feeling it would be best if I didn't participate.

I know there are some girls here about my daughters age, what advice can you give me on this?

How old is your daughter ?? Cause honestly... YOUR the parent and you can decide wether u go into the chatroom or not... afterall your paying electricity right =) ?? Not only that.... but if you think she could be getting herself in a bad situation then you need to step in.... the internet is full of dirty perverts and they roam the internet looking for these 18+ rooms to try and pick up young girls. i dont even know the age of your daughter tho lol... .Let me know and maybe i can lend more advice??

Lol.... Rosey,

my daughter's 23 years old. I know I didn't mention her age, I guess I just assume every one knows how old she is.

I have come to realize its probably better that I let her have the forum to herself. When in my presence my daughter tries to respect me by not cursing or speaking loudly to me. I do know when they are not with you/around you they don't have to watch their educate as much. So I think she would prefer that I not be a member of the room because she doesn't want to have the feeling she is disrespecting me by speaking freely.

I do have to respect her for that and understand her reasons.

as long as your daughter is smart enough to know the dangers of the internet, then i think you should leave her alone. It's her private space. she can talk freely there. it would be like her allowing you to read her diary....kinda....you know what i mean. it's her private area where she can vent herself, especially if she feels the need to vent about you. lol....

not that i really care, cause i tell hubby everything, but it's nice that I can come here on babycrowd knowing my hubby isn't reading everything i say.

does that make sense?

i know you can't help your own feelings about being insulted , but try to understand it from her perspective.....when you were her age would you have wanted YOUR mother to read EVERYTHING you ever wrote?

my sister and I had this book we'd write in and pass it back and forth to eachother...like notes....omg....if our parents had ever found that....we would have DIED!!!!! LOL

Bmes,

Yes I agree with you, in fact ...that's the way I am looking at it. I'm no longer insulted, I think it just kinda came as a surprise to me is all.

Iv always been a part of just about every thing she has done so when she said she wasn't allowing me access to the chat rm I was kinda surprised. I never really thought of the internet as being her outlet. but if I really think about it I guess it could be.

My mum always says "There are some things your mother just doesn't need to know."

I'm 27 and there are definitely things I don't feel the need to tell her and I am so glad she not only respects that but appreciates it too.

Just be confident that you raised her to be smart and considerate.
Hell at least she let you in there in the first place! ha ha!

Lola-May,

She didn't mind me participating on the forums boards she just didn't want me in the live chat rooms. It was my choice to leave the forum all together.

When she first opened up the live chat she was telling me all about it she voiced how much fun every one was having while chatting. At that time she didn't indicate to me that she didn't want me in there, so when I finally decided to check it out I said to her that I was going to take a peek at the chat. She then said NO! you cant go in there.

I am over it now, I do realize it is her thing and that's fine. However I do think because I was a member of the forum prior to her adding the live chat that she might have brought up the fact that she didn't want me there, before it was active. I think I was just cough of guard not expecting her reply.

Rosy,
That's funny you said that.... I was just kidding around with my daughter, I told her I was gonna find some one to join her forum to spy for me. Of course I was only kidding, I wouldn't do that.
